NO MORE. WREN WELLS
➛ MY HEART IS THUMPING. Not one person could've pryed that information from me and yet Tadhg Lynch managed to get it from me with a couple of words. He opened up to me aswell, and my heart has officially been broken. Yet here i am, letting him take me home. We pull into my road and my breathing quickens ever so slightly.
"You okay?" He questions, and i nod. "I should- I uhm.. Go??" I stammer on my words. "Okay then." He chuckles, and i feel my cheeks turn red. Loud engines rev, causing me to jolt. I look up to see my Da's beat up vechile steer out the driveway, and i find myself hiding my face to save myself from the boyfriend talk that is inevitably coming.
"DON'T COME BACK YOU SHITS!" I hear Taylor scream. My eyes dart up to Tadhg, who looks as confused as me. I begin to run, sprinting to my front door, seeing my younger sisters in pieces at the doorstep. "Tay, what happened?" i whisper, smoothing a hand over her hair as tears stream down her face.
"They threw out our books El." She sobs, and i look up to see Tadhg, staring down at me with a warm glance. "I'll be fine, stud. You can go home." I fake smile, he shakes his head, moving past me and into the house. "I'll make you guys dinner." He calls out. I don't bother fighting him as i lead Taylor to our couch, laying her head on my lap.
"Wrenny?" Riley enters the room, and i extend my arm to her, beckoning her towards me. "Come here, it's okay. I'm here." I coax as she runs to me, softly sobbing into my shoulder as i hold my two younger sisters. Before i knew it, i'm softly singing the lyrics of 'here comes the sun' to them, attempting to soothe them. "They were ours." Taylor bites. slightly more calm now. "I'll replace them." I murmer.
"It's not the same.." Riley shakes her head. "How about you guys shower? Then come down for dinner." "Okay." The two say in unison, leaving the room as my shoulders sag, leaning back into my seat. "You're good to them." I hear behind me, turning to see Tadhg. He walks towards me, taking a seat beside me.
"I should've been here to take care of it." He shakes his head, green eyes meeting mine. "You can't be there to stop everything, Wren. You don't have to be the hero all the time." He whispers. "You should be a therapist, you have a way with words"
He softly laughs, and i watch dimples form on his cheek. He looks pretty, i don't know if that's the right word but that's what he looks like. The dimly lit room does him great justice as his face relaxes, eyes locked on mine. "The words only come when i'm with you." he murmers. "That's a good thing, i'm not sharing my therapist."
A moment of silence passes, tadhg's arms stretching over the back of the sofa, almost touching my shoulder. "What books?" He asks, and i freeze, deciding whether or not to open up to him. As if he can sense my hesitation, his hand glides down from my shoulder to my hip, pulling me into his side.
"A truth for a truth, birdie." He whispers, my head falling onto his shoulder as we stare at the living room wall. There is one big family picture, taken before arthur died, along with a series of photos of arthur and his awards. There is one photo of each of my other siblings on that wall, and none of me. Being a swot means nothing if you aren't a man.
I release a shaky breath, "After Arthur died, my parents stopped buying us stuff, and that included birthday and christmas. So i started buying them two each a book on every holiday, even on my birthday because i knew it made them feel better. Now they are gone." His hand tenses around me, and i look up to see him staring with a hurt look on his face.
"When was the last time you got a gift?" He murmers. 7 years ago, and it was arthurs textbook. "It's been awhile, i don't ask so i don't get." "How long, Wren?" Tadhg presses, tears pricking in my eyes. "7 years." I whisper, "But that isn't a problem, my problem is that there's two distraught girls up there who lost something dear to them."
"My problem is you don't think about yourself wren." "Tadhg.." "Those girls will move on, it will be okay." He nods. I feel the tears begin to fall, and before i know it, i'm flipping sobbing. I rarely cry because of myself, or self pity. But with the assistance of mister Tadhg Lynch, i was a mess.
"Okay, this is good." He soothes, taking me into his arms. "How are you so good with this." I gasp out, my head on his hard chest as i unravel. "Therapy, birdie. Years of it." He rubs his hand down my back. then up to my hair as he pushes my curls back. "You know, in the medical room when i knocked you out, all i could think about was how i wanted to know you" He murmers, playing with a strand of my hair.
"You're kidding. I was insane that day." "Oh i know, you still are." He laughs, i join him. "You're fucking insane and i'm all for it. But i had never met a person who has a concussion and still worries about someone else." The doorbell rings, robbing us from our moment. "That's pizza." He says, arising from his seat. "You said you were gonna cook!" I laugh.
"You have nothing in the fridge." He replies, opening the door and taking two pizza boxes from the man, giving him €20.00 "Tadhg, i'll pay you back just a second." i say once he enters the living room again. "Don't, i don't need the money. I need to see you okay." I need to see you okay. flip. "I'm okay." i whisper, nodding along with my words.
"Show me, baby." He murmers back. BABY?!! "DO I SMELL PIZZA?" Riley calls, entering the living room. Taylor follows behind, a small smile on her face as we all crowd around the coffee table. "Thank you Tadhg Lynch." Riley says in a singsong voice as we all take a slice.
"Let's tell scary stories." I announce, my siblings nodding in agreement and Tadhg just stares at me. Taylor begins, "Once on a dark december day, there was four kids on a blue couch." "This couch is actually navy." I murmer, causing loud laughs around me, the stud beside me included. "IT AIN'T US THEN." Riley cackles, wiping fake sweat off her forehead.
"I'm sleeping good tonight!" I add, a loud laugh leaving Tadhg as his hand wraps around my waist. "Come home with me tonight Wren." Tadhg whispers. "What?" i stammer, turning to him. "You and your sisters pack a bag and stay with my family for the night, i don't want to leave you alone."
"We should go, el." Riley announces, "Their breakfast is KILLAAAA." I turn to taylor, silently asking. She nods. "Okay.." i nod, and a wave of relief floods through Tadgh's eyes. "Okay." He repeats.
I'm going to be spending the night at Tadhg 'the hothead' Lynch's house. What. The. Fuck.
