Jiwon burst through the back door of her house, clutching her backpack tightly. The soft patter of rain against the pavement filled the air, creating a rhythmic soundtrack to her excitement. Blooming flowers, still glistening from the morning shower, lined the path to the bus stop, their colors vibrant against the grey sky. It was the first day of her senior year, and despite the overcast weather, her heart was fluttering with a mixture of excitement and nervousness.
She had been dreading this day ever since the school year had ended—one big question loomed over her: Would she end up in the same class as Jake? They had shared the same grade since junior year, but their paths had never crossed in the same section. Now, as she approached the bus, her thoughts were consumed by the possibility of finally being in the same class as him.
Jiwon hopped onto the bus and made her way to an empty seat by the window. She glanced out, watching the rain continue its steady descent, and then pulled out her earphones. As she plugged them in, the familiar strains of her favourite playlist began to play, offering a comforting distraction from her nerves.
The bus jolted forward, and Jiwon sank into her seat, closing her eyes for a moment. She imagined the possibilities of the new school year, hoping that fate would be kind and bring Jake into her orbit. With each passing mile, she mentally rehearsed the potential scenarios—how she might greet him, how she would react if they were in the same class, or even if she would have to face the disappointment of being separated once again.
