Dearest Gentle Readers,

This author finds herself seething from events of the last ball held by Lord and Lady Cowper. It is clear from the words heard from this author, herself. Unfortunately, when it comes to Miss Cressida Cowper, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, to be sure.

What a delight. For the first time in this author considerable career, one has never witnessed such a braver display of galantsy and strength in one evening. Miss Penelope Featherington was seen, not only being cornered by Miss Cressida Cowper but indeed her mama Lady Cowper. This author will not repeat the harsh words from that faithfull night. But one has to be said that never have I seen a young Miss retaliate in such grace and beautiful fashion.

Not only do we have the two oldest Bridgerton brothers run to her hastily rescue, but we had Miss Penelope take charge of the situation, herself. Miss Penelope Featherington has something one can be envious of. She has Bite. We had the young Miss gently hold the gentleman back as she became elegantly feral in her distaste of the Cowpers.

With words of "Lady Cowper it comes to know surprise that Cressida is the way she is with your foul and horrid teachings. Perhaps, in future you should suggest some kindness and restraint. Before others may react to your unladylike behaviours back toward you. I recommend holding your tongue"

Gasps surrounded the room. With that, she smiled. Did not even curtsy, she span beautifully linking arms with Lord Anthony Bridgerton and Mr Benedict Bridgerton leading her to some 'much needed' refreshment from the Cowpers, to take away the lingering acid taste in her mouth, to be sure.

Sometimes when we fall one must pull ourselves back up. Our society will not tolerate such displays of impropriety.

Lady Cowper and Miss Cowper were seen to be perplexed and embarrassed, finding themselves hanging onto the walls. Our new wallflowers, I dare say.

Our Majesty, Queen Charlotte was seen impressed by the display which I believe, indeed made her night.

Your Truly

Lady Whistledown

————

The ton was elated by recent events, nothing like a young lady taking matters into her own hands. Penelope walked across Grosvenor Square to visit the Bridgerton home to thank her champions. Without them by her side, she would not have got her words out. They brought out strength she did not even realise she possessed.  On route she was getting smiles and proud looks from both the young miss's and gentlemen. She felt in high spirits.

Penelope loved the Bridgerton home. The fact she could walk in such a short distance was a blessing. Made her feel independant. For a lady, it was a rare thing, indeed.

Cressida and her mamas jabs did not come without scars though. She thought she would be used to it after all this time. Sadly, it was not a possibility.

She was proud of herself though, even though she knew there would be repercussion to her actions. Which she admit to herself, were quite funny and in all earnest, deserved. Cressida was not the sort of young miss that would not retaliate.  Cressida would simply make her revenge more harmful. Pen felt a burst of positivity though. If she could stand up to the villians in her life then perhaps, she can indeed, take matters into her own hands.

THE BRIDGERTON HOME

Anthony was the first Bridgerton that congratulated her success on taking the Cowper's down a step. He couldn't help but feel happy for Miss Penelope. He smiled down at her, pouring her another tea.
