The day's seemed to drag on until the start of the school year, September 1st. Aurora always thought this was weird, seeing as Australia started in February, ending in December.

The escort had dropped her off to the uniform shop with the Blackthorn Academy business card that was included with her black package she received. The uniform store was a brick building, with ivy climbing up the walls. Looks cosy enough, she thought as she entered the cottage-like building.

Aurora wandered through the building, over to wear a tall and slim lady with jet-black hair stood behind a desk with a sign, Uniform Fittings. The lady looked up at the sound of Aurora's footsteps and gave her a tight smile. She nodded at her, then moved around to open a curtain to her left, no, right, actually, yeah left and held it open for Aurora to step through, handing her the uniform list, and pointing to racks of clothes, sorted in colours. She nodded again, leaving Aurora to the female uniforms. What about the boys uniforms? Wait, are there even boy's at Blackthorn Academy? Aurora racked her brains, trying to remember if any of the letters mentioned anything about the opposite gender.

Oh wait, my dad went there, She remembered, suddenly feeling really stupid. She could feel her face slightly flushing, even though no one said or saw anything.

Aurora walked over to a tapestry hung over the wall, with 5 colours with arrows pointing in the direction of the uniforms. Emberflame had an arrow pointing to Aurora's left, yeah left, and she gazed up, staring at the cherry-red banner.

She stepped towards the collection, adjusted her glasses and unfolded the parchment where the uniform list was on, and started looking for her sizes.

After what seemed like hours of trying on sizes, Aurora finally walked out of the cosy cottage, handing in her business card from before, then walked out to find the Escort, her vision blurring as her glasses fell down her nose.

Aurora sat on her bed, her head on her knees tucked up into her chest, rocking herself slightly as she stared up at the calendar.

Thoughts swirled through her heads, thoughts on what it would be like, what sports there were, what were the names of the other houses, will there be people she could be friends with?...

Friends.

The thought crept into her mind, like a shadow, and suddenly Aurora felt all alone. How sad it would be if there was no one, no one at all, who wanted to be friends with her. How much would I have to change? What do I need to change about myself? What if I have no friends?

Aurora woke up a few hours later, with the sunset shining through the window bars. She climbed up onto the window sill, leaning against the frame, wondering if her dad was still alive, staring at the same clouds, the same sun. Wondering if her mother would have been pleased, happy or most importantly proud.

Long after the moon rose high above the city of London and the Headmistress walked along the rooms, locking each door, Aurora slid off the window, and counted the days until she would be boarding a train to Blackthorn Academy.

Realisation dawned over her as she counted 1 week. What if this is all a mistake? The inner voice inside her head whispered, as she began to doubt. No, everything will be fine, I just need to remember my lefts and rights without using my hands. Then I'll be fine. Aurora thought firmly, shutting out the voice.

The next morning Aurora woke up nice and early, only to head down to the breakfast hall and see a group of the broken, tattooed older boys, 17 year-olds, facing her, blocking the path.

"Move." Aurora said in a firm voice, staring up at the boys in front of her.

Gavin, a boy with a buzz cut and a massive neck tattoo grinned at her,

"What's that, pipsqueak?"

"Are you deaf? Move."

"Funny, you think you're better than everyone." One of the other boys, Myle, a boy with dreadlocks narrowed his eyes down at her.

"Funny, I don't think I'm better than everyone. I know I'm better than you though." She crossed her arms across her chest.

"Third time lucky. Move." She repeated.

"Sorry love, what did you say? Can you spell that out for me?"

"Nah bro, she's special with ADHD, remember?"

"Aight."

The group of boys guffawed at the set of remarks. Aurora's shade of her blue eyes darkened to a deep navy beneath her glasses, and she stepped forward, just as one of the stockier boys grabbed her by her knees, tossing her over his shoulders.

The boys laughed again. Aurora finally snapped. She twisted her torso around, and struck her fist right into his jaw, as he loosened his grasp ever so slightly, which she wriggled out of, grateful for her skinny figure. Aurora pushed her glasses up, then stalked out of the corridor, down to the breakfast hall, though now she'd lost her appetite.

She sat down at the end of the table, and separated her breakfast into colours, pushing it around on her plate angrily.
