A few months after the night at the bar Katarina and Bucky were invited to brunch by Sam and his Family in Delacroix. Katarina had met Sam a few times and she liked him, he was a nice guy and after Steve, probably Buck's best friend too. She was more scared about meeting his nephews, knowing that they see bucky as their uncle too.
A few hours into the nearly 24 hour drive Katarina gets a notification on her phone. It's Yelena saying that she needs help on a mission and saying that they'll meet in Delacroix. Katarina shows the text to Bucky with concern in her eyes, but he assures her it's nothing too serious even though it's been a few months since the last big mission. As they were driving through Georgia, they decide to stop at the next available shop for some snacks, after a few minutes into making that promise they see some little shops in the far drought, so they decide to stop there. While bucky was parking the car, he says:" Be careful, this place looks really shady and I guarantee you, those guys over there are armed." While pointing with his finger outside the window and his vibranium arm on the steering wheel. She looks outside and then back at him saying:"Don't worry, I'll protect you.""Of course you will Kat." He says, both smiling at eachother and going in for a kiss before leaving the car.
As both of them are getting out of the car, Katarina notices two strong looking men staring them up and down. She ignores it and follows bucky into the small, run-down shop that looks like it used to be a gas station but almost everything looked broken. Going into the shop Katarina starts smelling a foul smell, like there's something dead in there. She looks over to Bucky and he clearly smells it too, at least thats what she could tell from his facial expression. She quickly grabs some gummys and Bucky takes some cookies from the back and gets a bottle of water from the drink fridge. Kat goes up to the cash register to pay. There's an old man with glasses sitting there, he didn't even notice them until she stood right in front of him.
He was a friendly guy and while Kat was paying he was talking with Bucky who looked happy to be talking to the nice man. Going back to the car, Kat notices that the men that were staring at them before were gone. She decides that she wants to drive now and gives the men no more thoughts.
