Later that evening, as Xiu Lan left the office, she encountered Kai in the elevator. The small space felt intimate, and the tension between them was palpable.
“Xiu Lan,” Kai said, breaking the silence, “have you thought about joining me for dinner sometime? It could be a good way to discuss the project in a more relaxed setting.”
Xiu Lan’s heart raced at the suggestion. She hesitated, then nodded. “That sounds nice. I’d like that.”
