Not only was his quirk useless against him but he gained some type of power up that dwarfed the Nomu, which was the All Might killer.
Shigaraki: Damn it!
He swatted the glasses that were on the bar off of it, letting them all hit the ground with a crash as a voice from the tv that said "Audio Only" started to speak.
?: I take it, that it ended poorly.
Shigaraki: I tried, I did everything I could! But one of those damn kids, I-
?: No one here is blaming you, Shigaraki. You should not think of this as a failure but as a victory.
Kurogiri: Excuse my rudeness sir, but we completely lost.

Kurogiri/Shigaraki: ...

They then heard the girl growl out in anger as her fist slammed into the wall, making the entire block shake. The man on the TVs then said...
?: Don't worry, you will get your chance to drain him but first, let's observe him. I think that we may have finally found Carol's successor, so for now, let him live, you will make your next move on my mark.

The two shared a chuckle, one that held a lot of hate for each other before All Might and the rest of the teachers came in with stern glares pointed at Natasha.
She put a hand on her hip and waited for them to start as principle Nezu walked up to her with his usual smile.
Nezu: Hello madam, I am Nezu, the principle of this school. May I ask who you are?
