Well shit.

Despite all of their planning . . . despite all the things they each ran over in their heads . . . something major flew over both Suguru and Satoru's head.

Suguru kicked a rock by his foot.

How the hell was he supposed to reintroduce himself?

"Oh hey cutie! Long time no see!"

Nah. That didn't really feel right. After all, the guy had all but traumatized you with his little vanishing act. The sorcerer grimaced. He really needed to make it up to you.

He would take you somewhere nice. That restaurant that you liked. He would take you there. Get you a couple books. Maybe that plushy you were eyeing when you were out with Shoko.

Not that he was supposed to know that.

But both him and his best friend liked to watch. It settled their minds - guaranteeing that you were safe. Truly a win-win if he was to think about it.

That wasn't the point though. The point was, this fatal flaw wasn't a good one. He needed to figure something out as quickly as he could. Because he was supposed to be showing up within the next four hours.

The boy sat himself down on a large rock and threw his face in his hands.

Why was nothing ever easy?

Suguru let out a frustrated sigh as he stared at the ground. He had spent so much time planning every detail of his vanishing, wanting to make it perfect. Now, the moment where he finally made it back to you - the moment he had been desperately longing for - was approaching and he was lost.

There was only one feasible way he could get back. One that made the most sense.

And the only way that would tie this act altogether.

"You should do something else for a little bit." Satoru rubbed a hand on your back. "You've been sitting over this computer for hours."

Your head snapped up and you glared at him. "He's still missing. Someone's gotta do something."

He pressed his lips together, "Working yourself to death isn't going to help bring him back. A five minute break isn't going to make or break this search."

He felt as if he was going to scream. He knew Suguru was fine. He knew about the plan. He also knew that he couldn't give off any inkling he knew what was going on.

You sighed, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. I'm just . . ."

He kissed the crown of your head, "You're just tired darling."

You slumped back in your chair, your eyes still glued to the computer screen. The swirling data and endless lists of names felt like they were mocking you. The hours of searching, the late nights spent chasing down leads that always seemed to end in dead ends - it was wearing you down.

Satoru knew it too well. He'd watched you lose sleep and grow more frustrated as each hour ticked by. He wanted nothing more than to take that burden off your shoulders, but the nature of his role in this situation couldn't be compromised.

"You know," he said softly, "we can get some food. Maybe a change of scenery will help. There's that new place that just opened up down the street. I've heard they have great coffee and pastries."
