It's a bad idea, right?

Days went off and today I received a letter from the mayor indicating that the main event of the season. The flower dance is taken place tomorrow in the Cindersap forest. I already have someone in mind to be my partner for the dance.

Right now I was laying on Haley's bed, almost an hour of seeing her proving the new clothes she bought online and her complaints about how small the town is and how she'll love to have a mall here. Also saying how gorgeous she is in X or Y outfit.

"What do you think 'bout this one? Summer is close so I bought it" she said, looking at herself in the full body mirror and glancing at me in the reflection.

She was wearing a cute blue sundress. It fits her so well that I couldn't help but smile.

"It looks great, Haley. The color really suits you" I said, genuinely appreciating her choice. She turned around, her face lighting up at the compliment.

"Of course it does! I have impeccable taste" she said with a wink.

She flopped down on the bed next to me, her expression turning more serious. "So, are you excited for the Flower Dance tomorrow?"

I sighed, thinking about it. "Honestly, I'm a little nervous. I haven't really danced in front of anyone since... well, ever."

Haley nudged me with her elbow. "Don't worry about it. It's just a bit of fun and if you get lost just look to the girl by your side" we both laughed after that. I flipped to lay on my stomach while she stayed on her side.

"Do you already have a partner in mind for tomorrow?" I asked her, hoping to get a negative answer.

Haley shrugged, rolling to lay on her back. "Oh, you know me. I'll just go with the flow" she said and raised an eyebrow at me. "And what about you? Any special someone you're hoping to dance with?"

In fact, I have someone in mind. I wanted to dance with her tomorrow and her answer just relieved me but not enough to do it right now. I'll wait until tomorrow.

"Maybe" I said, trying to play it cool and hoping to not be too obvious even when I felt the heat on my cheeks.

Haley noticed the slight blush creeping onto my cheeks and smirked. "Oh, I see. Got someone in mind, huh? Spill it, who is it?"

I shook my head, not wanting to give too much away. "Just... someone, you'll know tomorrow"

Haley laughed but somehow it felt too forced, even when she nudged me playfully. "Alright, keep your secrets. But if you need any fashion advice for tomorrow, you know where to find me."

We got silent for a few moments until she decided to talk again "you know, I actually have someone in mind too, but I don't know if that person will accept"

Her words took me a bit by surprise, now feeling more nervous and insecure about asking her to be my partner. "Oh, you do? I guess you're not going to tell me either, right?" I tried to say playfully.

"You didn't tell me yours so, no. You'll know tomorrow" a little smirk on her face as she rolled on her side to look directly at me.

I let out a little laugh, a forced one just to not show what I was really feeling. Maybe she peeked interest in someone else or maybe she's not into girls or maybe....maybe it's not a good idea?

"Earth to farmer, are you there?" I didn't notice I was lost in my thoughts. I looked back at her seeing the confused or mad look on her face "I was talking and you just went out of this world"

"Sorry...a lot of things on my mind. I should be going, I have something to do" I said, moving to sit on her bed "see you tomorrow, can't wait to see who your partner is" I tried to lighten the mood as I walked to the door.

"Uh? But you said you were free-"

"I thought I was! See you tomorrow" I heard her snorting and sighing as I closed the door, resting my back on the door with a sigh. I obviously don't have anything to do. I just used a stupid excuse to leave.

"You should eat that before it gets cold" Emily's words brought me out of my thoughts. I was just looking and playing with the spaghetti on my plate.

After leaving Haley's house I wandered around the town for a bit and ended up here in the saloon with a plate of spaghetti in front of me.

"I think I lost my appetite, can I have it to take out?" I asked her kindly.

"Sure, just give me a moment" she took my plate and came back with a bag with my food "there you go, now tell me what's in that head of yours"

"Well, I think I still have my brain there" I joked and laughed, while Emily just shook her head and ran her hand over her face.

"It's a good thing you decided to be a farmer and not a comedian, you did the town a favor"

"Come on, it wasn't that bad!" I refuted between laughs.

"Yes, yes, now answer the question" she said with a small smile on her face, deep down I know it made her laugh.

Now coming back to her question, I hesitated for a bit but I could take advantage and ask her something "just thinking about the festival tomorrow" I murmured, now resting my arms on the counter. Looking around I could see that the saloon was a bit empty still. It's still early so it's understandable.

"Hey Emily, I know it'll sound weird but, do you know who's Haley's partner for the festival?" I asked, trying to sound normal.

"So that's what's on your mind. Bad for you I don't know but she dances with Alex every year" she said, resting her back on the counter. Her answer making me overthink my idea more "why the question anyway?"

"Nothing, I just was curious about it. You know, first time at this festival and the curiosity peaked me" I tried to make a credible excuse but the suspicious look on her face told me that she didn't believe it.

"You're a bad liar, but let's say I believe you" I nodded, a bit embarrassed and glad that she didn't ask more questions about it.

"Do you have a partner for the dance, Emily?" I asked, trying to move the focus from me.

"Nah, the one I want to dance with lives out of town, but surely I'll end up dancing with Clint like each year" she said nonchalantly and I nodded, curious about what she said first.

"And no, I'm not going to tell you who I want to dance with, that's the price of lying to me before" a playful laugh leaving her.

"That's mean..." "but fair, eye for eye as my grandma said" I laughed at her words and shook my head, I guess I'm going to live with the curiosity for now.

After a while of talks and laughs I came back to the farm. The sun was hiding and I couldn't stop thinking about the same topic. After talking with Emily I'm very sure that Haley's partner tomorrow is going to be Alex.

I mean, they're best friends, he likes her and they are partners each year. How can I compete with that? Also, he's a boy, why would a girl like her get interested in a girl like me...that's stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid! Me and my bad ideas as always.

But I really want her to be my partner.

The voices of my parents telling me that I can't get everything I want echoing in my head. They'll go crazy if they know I want a girl to be my partner at a dance festival. That'll be a sure trip to the church and a lot of visits from the priest.
