Festival of confusions

Flowers Dance, the main and last Event of the season. It was my first season here, and I was already in love with the valley and this town. I crossed the bridge that connected the area with the forest, marveling at the colorful flowers and decorations that adorned the space. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blossoms, and the lively chatter of the townspeople added to the festive atmosphere.

As I looked around, I spotted Elliot and Leah standing by the river. They were engaged in conversation, their expressions warm and friendly. Deciding to join them, I made my way over.

"Hey, you two" I greeted with a smile. "Enjoying the festival?"

Leah turned to me, her eyes lighting up. "Hey! Yes, it's beautiful, isn't it? This is one of my favorite events."

Elliot nodded in agreement. "Absolutely, the whole town comes together to celebrate. It's quite a sight."

I glanced around again, taking in the vibrant scene. "It really is. I can't believe it's only been a season, and I already feel so at home here."

Leah smiled and laughed a bit. "Those words remind me so much of Elliot's first year here."

Elliot just rolled his eyes and smiled back at me. "This town has that peculiarity. Maybe it's the people, but it makes you feel at home quickly."

I nodded in agreement. This valley is something else. I moved my gaze around, looking at everyone until I spotted Haley talking with Alex a few meters away.

"Did you already ask her to be your partner for the dance?" Leah's question reached my ears, and I looked back at her.

"Well... no, and I think it's better if I don't" I answered in a mumble.

"Oh, but why? Did something happen between you two?" she asked again, confusion on her face.

"No, nothing like that. It's just that I know she's going to be Alex's partner, and I don't want to interfere" I said. I'm not 100% sure she's going to be his partner, but my suspicions told me so. "Also, I'm a bit scared of being rejected."

"Did she tell you about that?" Elliot asked, joining the conversation after being a spectator.

"Well, no, not directly. But she told me that she already has someone in mind, and Emily told me that she and Alex dance together every year." Adding that Alex likes her, it's pretty obvious that the person she had in mind is him.

"It's true that they're together each year, but you should go and ask her, just to be sure" Leah suggested, but I just shook my head in response.

"I'm not that brave, Leah. There's no way she's going to choose me over Alex. It's obvious that she's going to refuse" I said, certain that I didn't have any chance.

Leah was about to say something else, but Elliot spoke first. "Well, if you're so sure about that, what if you're my partner this year?" he suggested, surprising me with his proposal. "It would suck to spend your first Flowers Dance in the corner" he added with a warm smile, a glimpse of something on his eyes.

I looked at Leah. She'd stay alone if I accepted, so I asked silently if she was okay with it, and she just nodded.

"Well ih Leah it's okay, I think I'm going to say yes" I said to Elliot. He placed his arm around my shoulder, and a happy smile appeared his face. Even if it's not Haley,
I'll try to enjoy the dance.

Speaking of her, I felt a gaze on me, so I turned around, looking for where it came from. After looking around for a bit, my eyes met with a pair of blue ones. The look on her face was a bit hard to describe, like a mix of disappointment and anger? I didn't really know. I raised my hand and waved at her, but she just turned her face away. Strange...
