That night, I didn’t sleep. I didn’t even wash my hands. All night I was thinking about him. Was it just a coincidence that we both are pairing for an event together? Or should I call it destiny? The whole night, all of such thoughts gathered in my mind.
Next day I went to college early. I had a test coming up and I had zero knowledge about anything so I went early to sit at the library and prepare for the test. 48 minutes had passed until I entered the library and started to read. At the 49th minute the door opened again. And my gaze shifted to that door.
Normally many people were entering and exiting the library but I didn’t pay attention at all. But at that moment, magically I paid attention. Very much attention. And I see Arjun enter the room. It was becoming very obvious that I was starring at him so immediately I shifted my gaze.
He sat at a table which was four tables away from mine. Next to a girl. Whom he was talking to.
I mean come on he was THE POPULAR GUY in college.
And it was obvious that girls will rome around him like honey bees around flowers. So I didn’t bother myself and went back to my own work.
Suddenly I feel a pat on my back. I look behind to find no one. And when I turn to my position again, I see Arjun. Sitting on the very chair beside me.
“
Hey partner! What’s up?”
“Hi uhmmm Arjun right?”
Gosh I was so dumb for this.
“Ohhh you forgot my name…..”
“I am so sorry I am not so good with names.”
I remembered every letter of his name and all of the variations of its pronunciations as well.
“Call me partner. That’s what I am gonna call you though. I am not good with names either”
“Okay”
“So what brings you here?”
“Well I have a test coming up so I was just preparing for it. What about you?”
“Yeah same. And also to talk to that girl you know. Shes kinda cute.”
I really didn’t know how to react. So I did the dumbest thing ever. I grabbed my things and got up.
“Ok cool. Well, meet you at the rehearsals then? I have to go I might be late for class.”
“Okay then. See ya there partner. Adios.”
I storm out of the library.
Later that noon, I said everything to Shilpa and-
“ARE YOU FUCKING DUMB? YOU HAD THEEEEEEE CHANCE TO HAVE THEEEEEEE CONVERSATION WITH HIM AND YOU JUST LET THAT GO? JUST LIKE THAT? WHAT.IS.WRONG.WITH.YOU?”
“I am so sorry I mean I was so nervous and you were not around and he was just next to me and I messed up. I messed up very bad.”
“It’s fine. Just don’t do that anymore okay?”
“Fine.”
After classes, we went to the auditorium for rehearsals. He was there. Sitting on the stage.
I climb up and begin to fix my microphone when he interrupted.
“I am not late today you know?”
“YOU HEARD?”
“ I mean yes it was audible from the streets even.”
“ I am so sorry I didn’t mean to-”
“No its fine you know. I should be more particular.”
I smiled. More than ever.
The rehearsals began. And the song we chose to sing was quite tough it was a classical Bollywood fusion. So just 2 hours of practice after classes was not helpful. That’s when my golden opportunity came.
“Hey partner! Don’t you think that we need extra hours of practice for this? So can we fix a day and practice separately? You know to improve our singing?”
OOOHHHHHH MYYYYYYYY GODDDDDDDD
“Yeah cool. Should we go to the bakers garden or something? You know at like 6:00pm, there are less peo-”
“Oh no come to my place. Gardens have a lot of mosquitoes. I am texting you my address. Can I have your number please?”
“Yeah sure.”
