I got up. He held my hand and took me with him. I was still not sure what he was planning to do. And the only thing that I could do at that time was to follow him because I was not in the state of using my own brain.

Soon it became visible to me that he was going towards the canteen. I was afraid that I would see those stares again. I stopped midway

"No I can't go in there. They will look at me again. They will ask questions."

"I said nobody will ask you anything. I will handle all of them." He said.

"But I-"

"Do you trust me?"

I couldn't answer that. I had nothing to say. Intentionally or not I kept silent. I just kept looking into his eyes. I think he saw that indication as yes. I guess. He pulled me inside the canteen. There were more people now. Much more. Almost the whole college. Did the classes get cancelled?

"Hey everyone, listen up"

All of them looked at us. Not at us maybe but at our hands. He was holding mine. The stares made me so uncomfortable that I hid behind him. Kind of. I was not at all habituated to so much eyes looking at me. Of course except when I sing but that lasts only for a few minutes and then everyone forgets.

"I have been aware of some news that some rumours are being spread in college. About me."

People started talking. Whispering. And I knew exactly what they were talking about.

"And I would like to clear the rumour that all the things that have been spread are absolutely false. All those fantasies that you all are making up in your head are simply your imaginations and nothing else. Whoever did this, if they are here, stop spreading misinformation when you do not know what happened in the big picture."

I was listening to him. And at the same time I was watching the crowd.

"It was just normal music practice for the upcoming college fest. And nothing more than that. So please shut your dirty minds."

The whole crowd went silent. I could see that they were believing him. At least his popularity worked here.

"Now you all can go. I am done. Thank you for your patience."

The crowd dismissed. Few people came to us and apologized. Those two girls gave me weird looks and exited from the canteen. Everything was back to normal. Well I guess it was.

I sighed. Out of relief. The rumour ended. Everyone knew it was false.

"Are you okay now?" He asked me.

"Yeah. Do you think they believed you?"

"Yeah kind of. A rumour only lasts for like 2 days. And now since everyone knows the truth, they will easily forget what happened. You can chill."

"Yeah but what if they ask me about all these again?"

"Now this is your anxiety, I can't help with that. You are just panicking about what's gonna happen in future. Chill a bit. People have other work to do. They will eventually forget."

I sighed again. Then I asked him.

" Do you know why they hell were there so many people in the canteen today? Almost the half college."

"Today is a half day. Because of Founder's Day. We have only two classes. And most of them are bunking the second class."

I completely forgot. I came to college running, just to attend two classes, one of which I missed. And then I had to face all this.
