It was the day of the dance and Sam had opted out of participating. Sam's mom had strongly

recommended for Sam to go that way he stops thinking about how Valerie broke his heart, but it

just didn't feel right to him.  As Sam mustered up the courage to walk in the cafeteria for lunch,

he couldn't help but think about how he was so happy and why it had to end. At that exact

moment Sam felt someone behind him and jumped, "hey Sam, how you doing?", Paige asked

encouragingly. Sam put on a smile and said, "hey Paige, still not the greatest, I think I'm going

to opt out of the dance this year". Sam knew Paige would be upset but still very understanding

about the whole situation. "Well Sam, I could go with you", Paige offered, "I know it's not the

same but I think it'll be a good time", she continued. Sam listened to what Paige had to say and

decided that he'd reconsider Paige's offer. As the day went on, Sam had given more and more

to going to the dance with Paige, but Sam couldn't shake the feeling of guilt and how Valerie

might feel if she knew. Sam knew in the end that Valerie wasn't coming back no matter how

much hope he held.

That night, as Sam was getting ready for the dance, Paige called. "Hey Paige, I'm just getting

ready, I'll be down in just a second", Same told her. "Okay Sam, see you soon", said Paige

before hanging up the phone. As soon as Sam was within visibility of Paige, she started blushing

uncontrollably. "Oh my goodness Sam, you look handsome", Paige exclaimed. Sam's mom

walked into the living room and shouted, "I need my camera, I absolutely need a picture of you

two". Sam looked at Paige and said, "hurry let's go while she is looking for her camera".

Paige tugged Sam's arm and said "Let's get a picture of tonight, this is how memories

are made". Sam reluctantly agreed and said "okay, one picture and then we have to go",

and laughed. Sam's mom took the picture and they were off to the school dance. As they

walked to the school dance, Sam looked at Paige for a brief moment and wanted to kiss Paige

but he felt like it wasn't the right time so instead just admired how gorgeous she looked.

Sam could see the school from where they had been walking and started feeling a little excited

about the dance. Sam just couldn't let go of his guilt though and even though he knew he was

going to have fun, he felt guilty about being there with Paige. As Sam and Paige walked into

the gymnasium, they notice the Valentine's Day decorations and loud music. The energy

inside the gym was excellent and it seemed as though everybody was having a great time,

everyone except Sam. "I can't stop thinking about Valerie", Sam thought to himself.

"Hey Sam, over here", yelled Paige. Sam made eye contact with Paige and started walking over

to her with a smile on his face. As the dance went on, the energy just kept getting better and it

was almost time for the last song. And just as the last song started playing, Sam ran out of the

gym into the hall. At that moment, Paige ran out looking for Sam to ask why he ran out in

a hurry. "Are you okay Sam, what's wrong?", she asked. Sam looked at Paige and said "I

think it's time for me to go home", while wiping his eyes.

Before getting up to leave, something stopped Sam in his tracks as he looked at Paige.
