The first few days of their journey went smoothly. They rode at a comfortable pace whether in a carriage or on horseback, surrounded by armed guides and carts full of supplies. The roads around the capital were well maintained, and so their progress was rapid. Nights were spent in comfortable inns or military posts where they could rest and prepare for the next day.
However, as they moved away from King's Landing and deeper into Westeros, the weather began to change. While there was still a whiff of spring in the capital, the days were getting colder and the nights longer and darker as they made their way to the North. The weather was becoming unpredictable, and while mornings might be calm and sunny, afternoons could be caught in torrential downpours or cold winds.
One day a violent storm hit them while they were travelling. Thunder echoed from the sky and lightning illuminated the dark clouds. The parade had to quickly find shelter in an old, abandoned inn by the roadside. The roof was leaky and the wind was constantly straining it, but it offered at least partial protection from the storm.
Later, when the storm calmed down, the road became harder and slower. Mud and dirt on the roads caused horses to struggle and wagons to get stuck several times. They had to stop and everyone loosen the wheels and push the wagons through the mud.
At one point they also had to face wild animals. As they passed through a dense forest, they were attacked by a pack of wolves, attracted by the scent of supplies. The armed guards managed to fight off the animals, but the experience left a deep impression on the girls. Visenya realized that the savagery and cruelty of the North was real, and that their journey would not be as easy as they had originally thought.
After almost a month of travel, when Visenya and Aries could see the traces of fatigue on their faces and clothes, the majestic walls of Winterfell finally appeared before them. The chill of the North could already be felt in every breath, and snowflakes began to swirl in the air. The two girls looked up at the massive fortress that stood as the guardian of the North, and felt a mixture of relief and curiosity.
When the procession reached the majestic walls of Winterfell, the air was cold and snowflakes floated gently over the snow-covered peaks. The Northerners of Winterfell, including Lord Rickon Stark and his wife, Lady Anna Cassel, stood in the courtyard awaiting the arrival of young Aries, unaware of the surprise that awaited them.
Aries, who had been invited to visit her aunt, was welcomed with open arms, but none of those present suspected that she had brought a very special guest with her. Even as the carriages and knights on horseback passed through the walls, people noticed the Targaryens flags.
When the carriages stopped and the door of the main carriage opened, all eyes turned in that direction. Out of the carriage stepped a young Visenya Targaryen, with silver hair and limpid green eyes that were immediately met with surprised looks from those present. Lord Rickon Stark, a tall and powerful man with a rugged face, gasped. His wife, Lady Anne, standing beside him, did not restrain herself, and for a moment raised her hand to her lips. Not in their wildest dreams would they have expected the heiress to the Iron Throne, Princess Visenya Targaryen, to join them as a guest.
