"Mint chocolate is disgusting," I say flatly, staring down at the variety of decorated cakes behind the glass counter inside the bakery shop with my best friend as we both take the longest time to pick one out for my birthday. I'm eighteen today. Holy shit.Sydney brushes her long dyed blonde hair that's still dark at the roots, behind both shoulders and tucks her phone in a pocket. "No, it's actually good. You should try it."
Standing straight with my hands inside my coat pockets, a small scoffs comes from my mouth as I look at her with a 'yeah right' expression on my face. "One, I hate mint and two, I don't like chocolate that much either."
"You better be joking." Sydney says to me with a straight face. "Chocolate is literally the second best thing on this fucking planet."
"What's the first?" I wrinkle my brows amused.
Sydney holds a small mirror in one hand while her other free hand is applying more dark red over her thin lips. She makes a loud pop sound then rubs them together. "Dick." One thing about her is she's definitely boy crazy. Only eighteen and had at least twenty bodies whereas I only slept with one guy my whole entire life. But hey, who am I to judge? Her body, her rules.
I mean she's freaking gorgeous from head to toe and extremely rich. Her body is shaped like those Instagram baddies every girl wished they looked like these days and her bank account probably looks like the Kardashians all together because her parents are billionaires. Both are CEO's of a wealthy company.
I shake my head, chuckling. Finally coming up with a decision I point to a specific cake.,"I'm going to pick the vanilla cake with the strawberry toppings on it."
"You're such a plain Jane." She scoffs, shoving her makeup products inside her Gucci purse. "I don't know why I became friends with you."
"Because you're secretly in love with me." I joke, sliding my wallet from my pocket but she gently grabs my hand to stop me. She then pulls her black credit card from her designer wallet and hands it to the cashier.
Love her to death but I hate when she spends money on me. Sighing, I brush my fingers through my hair and say "You didn't have to do that. I had the money." while she tucks her card back inside her wallet after paying. Truth is, I'm grateful for her kindness but I also feel like a charity case.
"I know." She pinches my cheeks and smiles while the baker is wrapping up my cake.
The sun is slowly setting as we're walking out the small shop heading towards her newest car, a black Jaguar she received from her parents four months ago for her birthday. Unlocking all the doors, she slides her designer shades upwards on her head, pushing her hair back. "Hey, do you want to grab dinner before I take you home?"
I nod, climbing inside the car the same time she does, carefully holding the bag my cake is in. "I really appreciate this, Syd."
She smiles, starting the engine. "My pleasure. Besides, who doesn't want to be spoiled on their birthday?" While she's backing out the parking spot, I glance behind me at all the shopping bags cluttering the back seat. I would be lying if I said I didn't like having a rich best friend because I really do.
