"You've never seen any of the James Bond movies?" Vance is sitting next to me on the floor inside the pantry, with his back leaning on the wall, eating out of a bag of Doritos.

I twist open a jar of cherries. "No. I heard of them though."

Vance chuckles lightly while chewing and then he swallows. "I watched them with my father when I was a kid. When I was sixteen, I took a girl on a date to see the Golden Eye."

With a smile, I pop a few cherries in my mouth. "Oh, what was her name?"

"Pamela. She was the cutest girl in my neighborhood that had the most beautiful green eyes I've ever seen on a woman." He pops some chips in his mouth and then chews before continuing with the memory. "She had five older brothers and one of them couldn't stand me. After our movie date, I dropped her off back at her house and there her brother was waiting for me."

"What happened when you took her home?" I ask amused, sucking on another cherry with a smirk on my face when he stares down at my mouth for more than a minute and then looks away.

Vance sighs deeply, smiling. "We got into a fight. The other brothers tried to stop it from happening, but it was too late because I laid him out on the sidewalk right in front of them. Ever since then none of them messed with me again."

"Why didn't her brother like you?" I slide my hand down inside the jar, grabbing another cherry. I bring the cherry to my mouth, but Vance gently takes my wrist and then eats the fruit. Gulping, I watch him lick my pointer finger with a dark gaze.

Vance chuckles at my reaction. "Back then I didn't have the best reputation, and he knew that. None of Pamela's brothers wanted us dating but she was stubborn. Her family told her that I would break her heart."

I twist the top back on the jar, putting it on the shelf. "Well, did you?"

"A week later she caught me at the football game in the backseat of my car with Barbra Bowin." Vance sighs deeply and then folds the bag of chips.

"Wow," I mutter, shaking my head. "Something a teenage boy would definitely do."

Vance laughs as if what I just is the funniest thing in the world as he scratches his bearded chin. "I will admit I had slept with many ladies back then."

"So, what made you settle down with Diana?"

He shrugs a shoulder, scratching the side of his face as he stares at the floor in deep thought. "I didn't really have a choice. Her and I had a one-night stand after we met at a bar. She ended up pregnant, told me she didn't want to have a child out of wedlock, so I married her. Months later, Sydney was born."

I crease my brows as my brain processes everything he just said. "Hold on. You married a stranger?"

Vance shrugs sheepishly with a crooked smile. "I had no choice. Diana was carrying my child. My father would've kicked my ass if he was alive knowing I gotten a woman pregnant and didn't marry her."
