"Are you sure you're gonna be fine home alone?" Before heading off to school the next morning right after showering and getting dressed, I exit the guesthouse and came upstairs to check on Sydney. To my surprise, she looks way worse than she did yesterday.Tucked under the quilts with tissues stuffed in her nostrils, Sydney has dark circles around her eyes and her face is paler than the walls. Used balled up tissues are covering her nightstand next to a bottle of cold medicine and a cup of hot tea.
Blowing her stuffy nose, she nods with watery eyes. "I'll be fine, baby. Go to school." She talks like there's something stuck in her throat.
"Are you sure? I can skip school today, it's fine." I ask her one last time, sitting on the edge of her bed feeling really bad for her because she's never been like this. Believe it or not, Sydney doesn't usually get sick. I'm the one that gets a cold every now and then. She's the one who takes care of me.
Sydney drops the tissues in the bin beside her bed. "Yeah, I'm sure. My mom said she'll look after me today."
"Alright," I wrap her in a hug and then stand up to leave the room but she asks me something that catches me off guard.
"How was your date with Evan last night?"
Shit.
Chuckling, I look back with a guilty smile. "It went well."
Sydney frowns unamused, sitting up in bed on her bottom with her pink sleeping mask on her forehead. "That's it? It went well?" She repeats what I said pathetically.
I shrug with a puzzled expression. What was I supposed to say? It's not like I could tell her I almost made out with her dad at the movie drive in.
"Well, did you at least fuck him?" She crosses her arms in front of her chest, lifting an eyebrow.
Oh, trust me. I really wanted to fuck Vance last night. Images of me on top of her dad pops up in my mind and I mentally slap myself for even thinking about such a thing like that.
Why does he have so attractive? And why out of all people it's her father that I want? Lord, please help me.
Feeling my face heat up, I glance at the current time on my phone. "Oh, I better go now or I'll be late. I'll be home right after school."
Sydney groans as I walk out the room quickly pushing the door close behind me.
"Love you!" I hear her say from inside the room.
"Love you more!" I say back, heading downstairs to the front door. My feet come to halt on the steps when I see Vance having a private conversation on his phone in the foyer. He's back to wearing his usual attire which is a business suit and black church shoes.
