The first light of dawn filters through the hospital room, casting a pale glow over Lisa's still form. Brian sits in the same chair, now slightly slouched with exhaustion. He rubs his eyes, weary but steadfast, as he keeps a vigilant watch over Lisa.
Meanwhile, Sophia is waiting for Brian; she's running out of patience now. She'd made several calls and sent texts the whole day but received no response. Frustration is evident on her face. She decided to visit Luther Enterprises along with contract.
Later that day, within the sleek confines of Luther Enterprises, Sophia approached Alex, Brian's secretary, her voice laced with urgency. "I need to know where Brian is," she said, her brow furrowed in concern. "We had a very important meeting scheduled yesterday, and he's missing. He isn't answering his phone, and I've been trying to reach him for a while now. If he's busy, he should at least inform me. So, where is he? Is he in his office?"
Sophia barged into his office without waiting for his secretary to respond. The door swung open with a sense of urgency. The office was eerily quiet. However, Brian is nowhere to be found.
Alex followed Sophia, her expression of concern and frustration. "Ms. Harrington, that's what I was trying to explain earlier. He was prepared for the meeting yesterday. We were actually about to leave to meet you, even half an hour early to avoid keeping you waiting. I went to the restroom, and when I returned, he was gone. I assumed he had left to meet you, but... since then, I've been trying to reach him."
Sophia's heart raced, "What? Have you called the police?"
"Police? Ms. Harrington, let's not rush to conclusions. Mr. Luther has done this before. Maybe he's just trying to clear his head or something. You know he was disturbed about the funding. Let's wait a bit."
"Are you sure he's fine?" Sophia's voice wavered, a knot of anxiety tightening in her stomach.
"Let's not jump to conclusions before we hear from him," Alex replied, trying to maintain a calm demeanor.
"Alright then, I'll wait in his office," Sophia said, her resolve hardening.
"Umm, okay," Alex stammered. "Would you like something? Coffee or maybe some snacks?"
"I'll have water, thanks."
Alex nodded and quickly fetched a glass of water, her movements reflecting the tension in the air. As he served it to Sophia, the silence in the room deepened, both clearly aware of the weight of uncertainty that loomed over them.
The silence in the office was broken by the ping of Alex's phone. He quickly read the message from Brian, "I'm sorry, Ms. Harrington. I just received Mr. Luther's message. He said he's fine—just dealing with a personal matter. He didn't provide details, but regarding the contract, he mentioned it will be signed and personally delivered to you in a few days. He also plans to host an apology dinner."
Sophia's frustration flared. "This meeting is crucial for our project. How can he be so irresponsible? Does he not care about this anymore?"
She moved to the window, her silhouette framed against the sprawling cityscape. Her eyes narrowed as she stared out, mirroring her turmoil. Alex watched her, concern etched on his face, feeling the weight of the moment.
"I don't understand how Brian can just brush this off," Sophia continued, her voice thick with frustration. "We've invested so much in this project, and now he's treating it like it's insignificant."
The city buzzed with life below, but in the confines of the office, time seemed to stand still. Alex shifted in his chair, trying to find the right words to ease her anxiety. "I understand your frustration, Ms. Harrington. I'll make sure to convey the urgency of the situation. Maybe he just needs some time to sort things out on own."
Sophia turned away from the window, her demeanor shows her anger and disappointment. "I need this meeting to happen as soon as possible. If Brian is not available, this project cannot be stalled any longer. I call off this deal. Let him know the consequences of his private affairs which can't be handled after but this deal." She firmly said, "He's putting everything at risk, and I can't just sit here waiting for him to come around."
Alex nodded, understanding her frustration but hoping for a more empathetic approach. "I'll contact him again and update him your message."
Sophia sighed, the tension still palpable. "Thank you, Alex. I appreciate your efforts. Please keep me updated as soon as you hear back from him. I hope he realizes what's at stake."
Alex nodded in acknowledgment, with that she exits the office.
Later in hospital, Brian stepped into the washroom to freshen up. When His phone buzzes with a message from Alex.
Unbeknownst to Brian, Lisa peeked at the phone, a smile playing on her lips as she caught sight of the message. Her eyes sparkled with mischief as she read the brief note from Alex, recognizing the weight of the situation yet relishing the opportunity it presented.
With a teasing glint in her eye, she turned off his phone, silencing any potential distractions, before slipping it back onto the bedside table. The room was dim, the soft morning light filtering through the curtains, casting a warm glow over the space.
Brian came out and sees her awake, a smile graced his lips. "How are you feeling?" he asked, concern etching his features.
Lisa with a fragile, grateful smile, "I'm feeling much better," she replied, though her voice carried a hint of pain. "My hand is still hurting badly."
"Wait here," Brian said, his instincts kicking in. "I'll call the nurse to check on it."
As he turned to leave, Lisa reached out, gently grasping his hand. "Don't go, please. Could you stay with me a little while longer?"
Her plea tugged at his heart, he hesitated a moment but noticed the discomfort on her face. "Of course, I'll stay with you," he assured her, settling into the chair beside her bed, taking her hand gently in his. The tension of the outside world faded, leaving only the warmth of their connection.
Brian leaned closer, his brow furrowed with worry. "What's up? Just let me know if you need anything else. I'll make sure you're taken care of."
Lisa's eyes reflected a mix of relief and vulnerability as she met his gaze. She gripped his hand slightly tighter, finding comfort in the warmth of his presence.
"Thank you," Lisa whispered, her expression softening. "I really appreciate it," Lisa said, her voice thick with gratitude. "And I'm sorry for causing all this trouble. I didn't mean to be a burden on you. You've already done so much for me. I must have held your things, keeping you here all day. You should go, besides nurse said I can go home now. So...."
Brian shook his head, his expression firm. "No, don't worry about that. I'm here because I want to be. Your well-being matters to me. If you're ready to go home, I can help with the discharge process and make sure you're settled."
Lisa looks relieved but hesitant, her gaze drifting. "You don't have to do that. I can manage. I just don't want to keep you from your work or anything."
"Don't worry about work," Brian replied, his tone steady. "Right now, my priority is making sure you're okay. I'll handle everything here, and if you need anything else, just let me know."
Touched by his dedication, Lisa nodded, feeling a warmth bloom in her chest. "Thank you, really."
Brian smiled softly, then stood up, gently squeezing Lisa's hand before letting go. "I'll check in with the nurse and help get you ready to go." As he moved toward the door, he glanced back at her, his heart swelling with the desire to support her in any way he could.
As Brian walked over to the nurse, Lisa was watching him, a flicker of something dark crossing her mind. "It's just the beginning, Brian. It's your time to suffer for ruining my sweet family. Let's get even soon."
Nurse: "Alright, Lisa, let's get you prepared for discharge. We'll need to go over a few things before you leave."
As the nurse begins the discharge process, Brian returned to Lisa's side, ready to assist her. The scene transitions with a sense of quiet determination from Brian, his focus entirely on her well-being. And reflects on the complex emotions of the moment.
