After her failure with Katie Bell, Iris returned to Grimmauld Place. She hadn't felt darkness of that nature before. Whatever curse had infected Katie was powerful and full of agony. Iris supposed that was the point— Dumbledore had said its intent was to kill.
She went back to her routine of wasting the days away; Sirius back to his of trying to drag her out of bed.
It didn't take long for Dumbledore to send in his star player to coax Iris back to Hogwarts. She awoke with a start as Harry Potter came flying onto her bed like a squirrel, Iris letting out a startled yelp as his elbow landed square into what she could only imagine was some vital organ.
"What in the bloody hell are you doing?" she groaned, shoving her twin off of her with a face that could win the award for 'grouchiest person alive.'
"Come back to Hogwarts," Harry pleaded, rolling over to lean on his forearms.
Iris groaned even louder and pulled the covers over her head. Harry tried to pull them back down, muttering his annoyance. Iris yanked back, causing Harry to pull harder in retaliation, but the girl had an iron grip and wouldn't let go. He gave up with a roll of his eyes.
Harry spoke again, "Come on, please? It's not the same without you there. Everyone misses you, especially me."
The top of her head slowly poked out of the sheets until just her eyes were exposed.
He was giving her the look— the puppy dog eyes, pouty lip, 'how can you say no to this' face.
"I know you miss classes," he tried to persuade her.
Iris' eyes narrowed at him. She hated that he was right. She missed reading spellbooks and learning magic, and she missed being around people too. Iris hmphed, not wanting to admit her defeat out loud. Maybe, just maybe, it had been long enough away from the school and the real world, and maybe it was time she left her hideaway. She lightly rolled her eyes and folded the covers back down all the way.
Understanding her silence as a reluctant yes, Harry grinned widely. He rolled back over onto his back next to her and stayed quiet for a minute.
"Y'know the new potions professor, Slughorn, keeps asking me when you'll be back... I think he wants you to come to his Slug Club."
"His what now?"
By the time evening came, Iris was on her way back to Hogwarts. After much hesitation and delay caused by Iris, she parted ways with Sirius, making him promise to visit every Hogsmeade weekend.
She could feel her nerves building as she and Harry left Dumbledore's office and walked down the magical staircases together for the first time since last June. Distant voices grew louder as they approached the Great Hall, which was just filling up with the last few students before dinner would be served.
