"You have food poisoning." The doctor says. He's hot.
"Great." I groan.
"And you might have a small infection as a result of your gunshot wound." He adds. I closed my eyes when another round of cramps hit me.
"You shot her?!" An older woman standing beside Rio says.
"No." He says gruffly.
"Then who did?" She demands.
"The cavalry outside of the diner." I cough out in pain as I contort into a fetal position in a poor attempt to relieve myself of some of the pain.
"Is the bullet still in your arm?" The doctor asks. I move my hand to feel around the hole in my arm.
"Yep." I mutter when I feel a hard nub inside my bicep. They had done a decent job of wrapping the wound with bandages so I wouldn't bleed out all over the place.
"I can take it out but it'll hurt."
"Okay- Wait. why? Aren't you just going to kill me?" I ask looking over at Rio.
"My father says he wants to use you," I physically gag. The noise actually leaves my mouth. "Not like that, we can use you as a sort of leverage." Rio had a grin on his face.
"Do I get to keep some of the money? I want 5% please. Or no deal and I tell the doc here to inject me with whatever he has in his bag." I negotiate.
"Like I care about what happens to you." He says.
"I am gutted." I exaggerate with a fake pout. "Take the bullet out please." I say sweetly to the doctor. He nods and gets to work. Lucky for me, he didn't bring any type of anesthesia with him and I passed out.
The next time I woke up I was in bed. A really, really comfortable one. I pulled the sheets tighter onto my body. I sighed at the warmth and comfort before springing up when I heard someone clear their throat. My eyes locked with Rio.
"You know, watching someone while they sleep is stalking and creepy." He rolls his eyes.
"There's clean clothes in the bathroom, take a shower, we need to talk." He was so demanding and while it was slightly attractive, he tied me to a chair and confined me to four cement walls.
"You're breaking up with me already," I say softly as I reach the entrance to the bathroom, "I didn't even know we were together." I sniffle jokingly before closing the door behind me. I began taking off my clothes to step into the steaming shower.
As the water ran down my body, I relaxed. The feeling of the warm water calming my tense muscles. I can't remember when the last time I had a hot shower was and I was going to enjoy every second of this one.
I scrubbed away at my body to disinfect myself of anything dirty or grimy off my body. I stood beneath the steady stream of water for as long as I could.
The clothes they had picked out for me were just as comfortable and soft as the bed I was laying in earlier. When I walked out of the bathroom, drying my hair, I found Rio still sitting in the chair staring at his phone.
"Thanks for the clothes." I mumble. He grunts.
"Are you ready? My father wants to speak with you." He says with complete disinterest. He stands without waiting for an answer. I follow after him. We reached the doors to a room which I am guessing is his father's office. When we walk in, I am greeted with a man nearly identical to Rio, simply older, it was weird.
"Sit." The man says without looking up. He didn't seem like the type to appreciate my jokes or remarks so I sat down in a chair across from his.
"You are here as an informant and as leverage. Your family owes me and you are our ticket to getting everything we are owed." Rio senior explains.
