"This isn't a fucking game, Magnolia." Demetrio yells. "Go. Again." He grits out.
We had been sparring for the last 2 hours and I apparently was doing every single thing he told me wrong. My form was bad, my hits were weak, my footing was wrong, I wasn't paying attention, I wasn't blocking correctly... Despite having been boxing for the last three years I guess I have learned nothing.
"Are you sure you're not just being a hard ass?" I ask, annoyed out of my mind. For the last two months Rio has been on my ass for everything. If I was up too late I was waiting for some signal to have them all killed, If I was late I had snuck out to give someone information. His trust issues were beginning to chip away at my patience and there wasn't much more to chip away at. For the last two months, I've been training and learning bits and pieces about my parents. My mother was always gone in the wind, she was rarely ever seen since she loves changing her appearance constantly and my father, he doesn't leave the house much. Apart from being the leader of a small organization, there isn't much on my father. It's like he's a ghost and my mother as well, they're names are known but it's almost as if everyone is too afraid to talk about them.
"You're angry," Demetrio grunts, "Use it."
"I'm not angry, I'm annoyed. You are an annoying fuck." I breath out as I hit him in the ribs. He groans.
"You are immature." He says. I laugh breathlessly.
"Yeah and dinosaurs are still alive." I roll my eyes. "I'm tired, we've been at it for the last two hours, can we have a break?" I plead.
"Of course the princess needs a break." He says, annoyed. I roll my eyes and walk to the bench on the side of the gym to grab my water bottle. The last two months have been stable compared to the last 3 years. It was nice. Solana has become the closest friend I have ever had and Connie and Charlie are nice. I still don't understand why. I feel like if my parents owe them, they shouldn't be so kind.
"We'll go at it again tonight." Demetrio announces. I looked at him with raised eyebrows at how insinuating it sounded. He rolls his eyes and clarifies, "We train here tonight after dinner." I nod and sit down, finally able to relax when he leaves me alone in the gym.
"You know he likes it when you get annoyed, makes him feel like he's winning." Solana says walking into the gym.
"I know, he's not that hard to figure out." I shrug, "He likes getting me to lose control so that I lose focus and make more mistakes which then make him call me out more and ultimately leads me to wanting to strangle him." Solana laughs.
"He'll loosen up a little."
"Yeah? That's what you said a month and a half ago." I groan laying down on the mat.
"Just give it a few more months." She shrugs.
"I will quite literally pull all of my hair out if I have to continue to deal with this for more than 3 more weeks." I groan. She laughs.
"You are perfect for each other. The line between love and hate is very, very thin."
"No." I glare at her. She smirks and shakes her head.
"Do you still want to go out tonight?" She asks, changing the topic. I nod. "Well, my club opening is tonight, I wasn't really planning to go but my dad is forcing me." She explains.
"As long as I don't get into any trouble then yes."
"You love trouble."
"True but- nevermind, you're right." We both laugh and get up to leave the gym.
When we reached my room I went straight to the bathroom to take a shower. I felt sticky and grimy. I didn't even want to sit in bed before getting all of it off me. I made sure to scrub at every inch of my body before walking out in only a towel to find both Solana and Demetrio sitting on my bed. I stood frozen for a moment before shaking my head and walking to the walk-in closet this room has. I still couldn't get used to it. Everything was so big. But what I could get used to- correction had to get used to was Solana and Demetrio popping up everywhere. Especially my room. It wasn't new. What was new is the fact that demetrio was there when I got out of the shower. It didn't seem like he was paying attention to me anyway which I appreciated. He was staring at his phone like an ipad kid.
I decided to get dressed in a pair of jeans and a black top. Something simple. It's not like I have anyone to impress anyway. I just wanted to drink tonight and not have to worry about anything. The latter isn't very realistic but a girl's gotta dream.
"I was gonna wear a super slutty dress." Solana says, looking over at me while laying down on my bed.
I laugh softly, "Wear it." I shrug.
"No, because then I'll be alone looking slutty, no fun." She pouts.
"I'll wear something slutty with you next time," She smiles.
"Who said you can go?" Demetrio says calmly leaning back in a chair across the room now. Manspreading. I cock my head to the side.
"I did." Solana says.
"And what if she gets you kidnapped and murdered?"
"How many times do I have to tell you, I don't have anyone on the outside, but if it's such a big deal I'll stay." I roll my eyes. I lied. Partially. Rio stared at me for a few beats before nodding and leaving.
"You lied right? That was a lie?" Solana asks.
"Obviously." she laughs as I smile sweetly. The only truth in my statement was that I have absolutely no one. As pathetic as it sounds, the only people I could count on were my coach and foster brother, Benny. They're both dead.
"Have you found anything on your parents?" Solana asks.
I shake my head. "Not much, some people think my dad, Otello, is dead because they haven't seen him, and my mom, Sorella, she's everywhere and nowhere at the same time. It's like they've deleted all records of themselves. Which isn't much of a reach."
"I wouldn't be surprised. There's not many records on me and Demetrio." Solana says. I nod. "Have you thought about what you're going to do if you meet them?"
Not in a while. For a while I lost all hope in ever finding them and now I don't know what to expect. "Nope." I admit.
She gives me an unconvinced look. "I'm gonna go take a nap before we go out tonight." Solana says. "I'll come get you later." She winks and leaves my room.
I threw myself on my bed and stared at the ceiling.
