The days following the wedding passed in a strange blur for Alyana. The initial tension between her and Aeron had softened into something more comfortable, but a heavy silence often lingered between them. The tension she felt in Lord Amos Bracken's presence, however, was far from softened. Every time Alyana saw him, memories of the torment and torture she endured under his orders resurfaced, and it took all her strength not to let the anger boil over.

Still, amidst the unease, there were moments when Alyana found herself looking at Aeron with a different kind of intensity. They had shared a deep bond once, and she could feel traces of that connection returning. But the pain of the past, the betrayal and the circumstances that forced them into this marriage made it difficult for her to let go completely.

One afternoon, Alyana was wandering through the gardens of Stone Hedge, seeking a brief respite from the castle's oppressive atmosphere. The garden was a place of refuge for her, where she could escape the ever-watchful eyes of the Brackens, and especially the cold, calculating gaze of Lord Bracken.

As she strolled through the rows of carefully tended flowers, she heard soft footsteps behind her. Turning, she saw a young woman approaching, her light brown hair falling in soft waves around her shoulders. Alyana recognized her as Aeron's sister, Jayne Bracken.

Jayne was a few years younger than Alyana, with a delicate beauty and a kind smile that seemed out of place in the harsh environment of Stone Hedge. They had never spoken before, but Alyana had noticed the young woman's quiet presence at the wedding and during the days that followed.

"Lady Alyana," Aeliana greeted her with a warm smile. "I hope I'm not intruding."

Alyana shook her head, managing a small smile in return. "Not at all, Lady Jayne. Please, join me."

Jayne walked beside Alyana as they continued through the garden, the scent of flowers filling the air. For a moment, neither of them spoke, content to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

"You're fond of the garden, I see," Jayne observed, breaking the silence.

Alyana nodded. "It's one of the few places in Stone Hedge that feels... safe."

Aeron's sister glanced at her, a hint of understanding in her eyes. "I know it can be difficult here. My uncle... he has a way of making everything feel cold and unwelcoming."

Alyana tensed at the mention of Amos, the memory of his cruel laughter echoing in her mind. "He's not an easy man to be around, at all."

Jayne sighed, her expression troubled. "He wasn't always like this. There was a time when he was kinder and more compassionate. But over the years, something changed in him. I suppose the power and the responsibility of leading our house hardened him."

"That doesn't excuse what he's done," Alyana said, her voice firm.

"No, it doesn't," Jayne agreed, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm sorry for what you went through."

Alyana softened at her sincerity. "It's not your fault. And I appreciate your concern."

They walked in silence for a while, each lost in their own thoughts. Alyana found herself feeling an unexpected kinship with Jayne. Despite being a Bracken, the young woman seemed untouched by the bitterness and cruelty that characterized her uncle.

"I've been meaning to ask you," Jayne said after a time, her voice hesitant. "How are things... between you and my brother?"

Alyana hesitated, unsure how to answer. Her feelings for Aeron were complicated, a tangled web of love, hurt, and confusion. "It's... difficult," she finally admitted. "There are moments when I feel like we could be what we once were before he married Lady Emilia. But then I remember everything that's happened, and it's hard to let go of the anger."
