Two days had gone by. Not a word from either Hazel or Adele. Silence. It left me to think long and hard about what I wanted to do. Finalizing my emotions helped me discover I really needed to talk to Adele. It was only fair.
My thumb brushed over the call button a hundred times, nearly pressing it, but my fear still gripped me.
I squeezed my eyes shut, contemplating, when I heard a voice answer. Fuck. I must have actually hit the button that time.
I lifted the phone to my ear with speed, replying shortly after a second hello ensued.
"Adele," I said, then, "I'm sorry I didn't hear you out the other day..." I trailed off, wishing the speech I'd made didn't evade me.
Adele sighed softly over the phone. "I'm not the type to hold a grudge, but I'm also not the type to have this conversation through a phone call, Lex." She was straight to the point which I respected, but it still brought a wash of anxiety over me that I needed to get over. Immediately.
"Alliano's?" I answered, avoiding beating around the bush. Ironic.
"8pm work?" She asked in answer. And I couldn't help myself but say,
"It's a date."
I hung up the phone, realizing it was already 6:30pm, not the ideal time for coffee, but I needed to get ready as soon as possible anyways.
Once showered, Oscar helped me pick out a pair of slim black jeans by pawing at them, and I pulled out a flowy red top that showed off my slender shoulders. Looking in the floor length mirror, I checked everything out before applying a light amount of black eyeliner and mascara. It was not my intention to tantalize her while having a serious conversation, but a frustratingly sexual part of me still wanted to be enticing.
Making sure Oscar received some chin scratches while he purred away, I promised him some treats when I arrived back, then headed towards the closet.
I grabbed a black petticoat, stealing out the door into the air that was becoming increasingly glacial and was thankful Alliano's wasn't terribly far.
Buildings rose above me, seeming to arch over me, creating my path towards Alliano's quite daunting. I shivered despite my coat.
Per usual, the cafe was busy even at this late hour. Rathens never slept. I entered, my fingers brushing the door frame, begging for it to keep me steady if need be.
Adele sat at a small table towards the back, a sly smile on her face. I gave her a shy smile back and walked over, then sat on the cushioned arm chair next to her. The cafe had an Italian restaurant bourgeois-type feel, heavily decorated in deep reds and paintings of far away landscapes and old newspaper cuttings. I surveyed my surroundings before looking back to Adele who patiently waited for me to speak, her chin propped up by her hand, the other lazily hanging over her thighs. My mouth felt dry.
"How's your night been?" I began impotently, noting the words didn't come out as smoothly as I had intended. Adele didn't seem to mind.
"It's been a good one actually, but it's really only just begun," She replied. I was surprised she played into the casual conversation, her usual bluntness cast to the side momentarily.
"Bit of a night owl?" I matched her body positioning.
"I think the best at night, my creative side just... begins to flourish." She explained, sitting back up, stretching her back so that her tits were the main spectacle in front of me. I urged my eyes back to her face, feeling a flush cover me. She smiled. I thought I'd be the one to have a sexual effect tonight, but she never stopped. It drove me crazy. But I needed to get to the point before anything else happened. I needed answers. So I asked, mustering up the guts to do so.
