Heart Of Wonderland

Chapter 6

Rey and Red have been inseperable for the past few days. The other VKs have started to hang out with the Wonderland Kids seeing how accepting they were.

Mal: so you are Red's brother?

Rey: yeah

Evie: how comes you wasn't on the isle?

Rey: i actually don't know the answer to that, i just think that i was unlucky not to be taken because i missed out on having a sibling like Red

He puts a hand on her shoulder.

Red: the isle isn't a good place Rey. the isle was a constant reminder that we're rejects because of our parents. the isle is more of a prison than a home, if you don't follow bad people then you have no place there.

Red stands up and walks away. Rey feels like he said something wrong.

Rey: can you all wait here for a minute?

All: yeah

Rey gets up and runs after Red. He finally catches up to her, she is sat by a lake looking out at the water. Rey sits next to her.

Rey: i'm sorry

Red: it's fine, you are just lucky you didn't have to live with our mother.

Rey: what was it like? living with her?

Red is silent for a moment.

Red: it's like being a pet, or a slave. being told what to do, what to eat, what to drink, what to wear, who i was to marry, who i was to bare children to and have no say.

She tears up, Rey looks at her with tears of his own.

Red: it was hell, i had all my choices made for me. i was forced to do what she demanded of me. if i ever said no.

She was silent. Rey put a hand on her shoulder.

Rey: what happened if you said no?

Red: she'd hit me, and pay other people to do it too. it broke me, i was losing my mind so i left and didn't go back until coming here.

Rey pulls Red into a hug. She holds her brother tight as she lets tears stream down her cheeks thinking about all the bad things that happened to her on the isle.

Rey: come on, i'll take you somewhere for the day.

Red: what about class?

Rey: i'll talk to Ben, i'll tell him you need the rest of the day off due to your emotions being too much right now.

Red: what about you?

Rey: simple, you want me there with you at all times so you aren't alone.

Red: ok, let's go.

* Later That Day *

Rey and Red have just walked out of a clothes shop, they sold baggy womens clothes that Red has grown to love.

Rey: now you don't have to take my shirts, you have your own and know where to get them.

Red: yours are nice tho, can i still borrow one here and there?

Rey: fine. just not my Liverpool top, that's off limits

Red: got it

They go into a few more shops. Once they decide to stop shopping they take it back to Rey's car. They put the bags in the boot/trunk and on the back seats.

Rey: lets get some food then head home, what do you say?

Red: sure, but are we gonna leave all this in the car?
