A few days have gone by since I last saw Cary. The memory of our last encounter is still on my mind. I was lost in thought when Jay's voice broke through my reverie.

"Hey," he said, playfully slapping my shoulder, his grin wide. "Are you smiling?"

I shot him a mock glare, trying to maintain my composure. "Don't touch me, you little shit," I retorted, but the corners of my mouth betrayed me, and I couldn't help but smirk.

Jay burst into laughter, the sound brightening the otherwise mundane afternoon.

"So, what's behind that smile?" he asked, a knowing look dancing in his eyes.

He leaned close as if he could pry the secret from my lips with sheer curiosity. I rolled my eyes, trying to play it cool. "I think you could need to get laid," I teased, raising my eyebrows suggestively.

He glared at me, ready to retaliate,  but before he could respond, I got up and retreated to my room, seeking refuge from his relentless teasing. I flopped onto my bed, the firm mattress welcoming me like an old friend.

As I stared at the ceiling, I couldn't shake the thought of Cary. I swear, this woman is going to drive me crazy.

Just the other day, I caught myself smiling at the memory of that night, and her eyes widened in surprise when she saw me at the foot of her bed.

I had to admit, it was funny to think about how I might have surprised her with my presence.

I loved how she said my name in her sleep—a whisper that felt like a warm embrace, a sign that I was on her mind even when she was lost in dreams.

"Are you okay?" I had asked her, concern lacing my voice.

"Better," she replied, her smile brightening the room like the sun breaking through clouds.

"Have you been here the whole time?" she asked.

"Yes." I couldn't bear to leave you in the state you were in.

"Thank you," she smiled. "I appreciate it."

"It's my pleasure," I stated.

Every moment spent in her presence felt like an enchanting reverie, leaving me utterly spellbound. Her magnetic pull on me was undeniable, akin to the irresistible allure of a potent narcotic. It was in that poignant moment that I experienced a deep-seated realization.

I had to find the courage to reveal my feelings for her.

"So," she said suspiciously

I can see the wheels turning in her head.

I noticed she was getting anxious simply by the way she would shake her leg, the way she'd play with her fingers, or the way she'd bite her bottom lip.

"I could tell after the game that you weren't feeling well," I said.

"Oh," was all she said.

"And I noticed your friends were out and you weren't. Also, when we were talking, you mentioned having cramps around this time the few times we spoke, so I figured it must be that time of the month," I added shyly.

I blurted out, "I don't think you understand how much you mean to me," I continued, my voice steady despite the emotion swirling within me.

The weight of my words hung in the air, thick with unspoken emotions and unacknowledged truthShe stood up abruptly, her movements sharp and deliberate, as if trying to distance herself from the moment.

"Wait a minute, I can't do this," she said, rubbing her arms.

"I think you should leave.", her eyes never meeting my gaze.

"I am in love with you."

I said the words, feeling foreign as they left my lips.

"Huh?" she responded, her eyes widening in surprise.

"I know it's a lot to take in, I know,"

I replied, groaning as I sat on the floor with my back against the bed, scratching my head.

I looked up at her, and I noticed tears in her eyes. I quickly got up, sat beside her on the bed, and took her hand.

"I'm sorry I sprang this on you," I said, making eye contact with her.

"But I've always been in love with you.
