Adam and Nina angrily left Veloria's place, their frustration evident. But inside, Richee and Veloria believed they had done the right thing.
"Do you really think he is the shadow?" Nina asked, still fuming.
"No, I didn't," Adam replied, shaking his head. "I don't think he is the monster."
Nina sighed.
"After everything that's happened, I've been having these memory lapses." adam confessed.
Richee had mentioned earlier, "I said I saw Nathan when I was with the shadow. But the shadow didn't possess him. I don't know that happened.I think All of this started after his resurrection but I don't think Nathan is the shadow."
"So why did you bring him here?" Adam demanded. "I know Veloria, and I wanted to uncover the mystery in this town and the tree. When I mentioned Nathan, she insisted on seeing the resurrected boy. So I brought him to her."
"Whatever. How do we rescue him? He helped me when I disappeared, and I want to do the same for him."
"I have some books about the monster and the tree. We can check those," Nina suggested.
"Okay, meet me at my home and bring all the books." adam replied.
"Okay. Where's your house?" Nina asked.
"Hart Mansion."
"Did you buy that house?"
"No, it's my grandpa's house".
"Is Steven Hart is your grandpaa?" Nina asked suppriced
Yes, why do you ask?.
"Steve Hart wrote those books. He must have kept them in his room, maybe he have something more about this."
"Let's go there and search for information on how to bring him back."
"please be alive Nathan?"
"They said they sent him to the shadow world. They didn't kill him."
"Okay, okay," Nina nodded.
They both went to Adam's grandpa's room, where Nina gathered all the books about monsters and the Silverbrook mystery. They searched for a week but found nothing.
Frustrated, they decided to search the room more thoroughly. They discovered a hidden locker at the bottom of a closed rack, so cleverly concealed that it was nearly impossible to find. They tried several keys, with Adam randomly attempting different combinations, but none of them worked.
"It's not working. We have to break it," Adam said in frustration.
"Wait," Nina interrupted. "I saw a number on the front page of one of the books."
They tried that number, but when it didn't work, they resorted to breaking the lock. Inside, they found documents and files, along with Steve Hart's diary.
The documents revealed that Steve had worked as a sheriff in the town-a fact Adam hadn't known. He had always thought his grandfather was a farmer.
They began reading the diary:
*March 3, 1968*
*I've become the new sheriff in Silverbrook. My first case was so mysterious. There's flu everywhere, but not in Silverbrook. Everyone says we're immune, that the flu can't affect us.*
*The flu became serious in various counties, and many people died. But not in Silverbrook-no one here even caught a cold. Except my family. My son Rob was hospitalized the same day.*
*A few days later, Rob was discharged from the hospital. They say it's a healing place. They didn't give him any medicine; instead, they chanting to him daily, and he was cured. It was unnatural.*
*A few days after that, I saw a new family move into the neighborhood.*
Sometime later, Steve had written about meeting a man named Ben, who came to Steve's house asking for help moving furniture. Silverbrook was a secluded place, so Ben had brought all his belongings in a pickup truck. Steve had offered to help.
"Hello, sir. I'm Ben."
*"I'm Steve. Where are you working?"*
*"I'm at the woods shop, sir."*
*"Oh, Will's shop, right? I know him."*
*"Yes, sir."*
While they moved things, they got to know each other better. Ben offered them herbal tea, and they sat outside, drinking it. They saw Clara walking toward the house and invited her to join them.
*"Ben, this is my daughter, Clara. Clara, this is Ben. He moved here today."*
*"What about your family, Ben?" Clara asked.*
*"I want to stay away from them, so I came here. I can't talk much about them."*
*"Okay. Clara, sit down."*
Ben poured tea for Clara as well. They had a pleasant time, and Steve invited Ben to dinner, but he declined, saying he would come on when he free.
After they left Ben's house, Clara asked her father, *"Why did you invite him to our house?"*
*"He seems like a good kid,"* Steve replied.
*"He's a runaway from home,"* Clara pointed out.
The next morning, Clara got ready to go jogging and saw Ben working alone outside his house. As Clara jogged past, she couldn't help but slow down and watch him work. There was something about him that piqued her interest-his quiet demeanor, his sudden appearance in the isolated town, and the way he seemed to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders.
She hesitated for a moment, then turned back, deciding to take a detour and approach him.
"Good morning, Ben. You're up early," Clara greeted.
Ben wiped the sweat from his brow and looked up. "Morning, Clara. Just getting some things in order."
Clara noticed the intricately carved wooden piece he was working on. It was a small, detailed figure, unlike anything she had seen before.
"That's beautiful. Did you make it yourself?" Clara asked, genuinely impressed.
Ben nodded. "Yeah. Helps me think."
"You're really talented. Maybe you could teach me sometime," Clara suggested.
Ben looked at her, surprised by her interest. He wasn't used to people taking an interest in him or his work.
"Sure, if you'd like. It's not too difficult once you get the hang of it," Ben offered.
Clara smiled. "I'd love that."
They shared a quiet moment, the early morning sun casting long shadows on the ground. Clara felt a strange pull toward Ben, something more than just curiosity. There was an air of mystery around him that made her want to know more, to understand why he had chosen to come to Silverbrook, of all places.
Over the next few days, Clara found herself thinking about Ben more often. She would pass by his house during her morning jogs, sometimes stopping to chat or watch him work. Their conversations were brief but always left her wanting to know more.
