Chapter 2 : Hunted

Me and Caroline are hiding behind a big oak tree and we both decided that we'll wait till they pass and make a b-line for the lake we saw a few yards away.

"Kate... what if they find us? What'll we do then?"

"I'll shoot um. I mean, I'm already a killer right?"

"Your not a killer. It was self-defense."

"No. I killed someone. It's not like I can go back there and be like, Hey! I know you! I shot you! I'm sorry 'bout that brah. It was crazy back there you now? It's not like I ment to shoot you right?"

     "Kate. You didn't mean too."

"Maybe not... but I still made the first sho-" And I don't get to finish because she punched me in my right arm.

"No. Stop blaming yourself for everything that happened back there, or I'll punch you again. Got it?"

"Yeah. Got it," I say smiling. "Now why does my sleeve feel wet?"

"I don't know? Here, let me see it."

I turn a little so she can see my right sleeve and her expression changes to worried. I look over to see a streak running across my uper-arm and blood dripping down.

"Did I really punch you that hard?," Caroline says jokingly.

"Relax, it's just a graze," I tell her.

"Look over there," the now familiar voice of the gang leader cuts through the air.

"Get ready," I whisper to Caroline. She nods in silence.

I pull out our one defense and get the silencer from my back pocket. If it's dead silence they could, maybe, hear it. But as long as they're talking they won't.

I undo to clip and see twelve bullets left. We have about five full clips left. I hear them talking and look around the tree but don't see anyone. Then Caroline pokes me shoulder and points to her left. I look over there and see about... all of them. I notice the girl that ran over to the man I shot isn't here and decide not to think about it.

"Wait till they spread out. I'll take out the one's farthest away to draw attention away from us," I whisper.

"That sounds like a good plan."

     "Ok. Just follow me."

I look around the tree again and see a man that's the farthest away from the lake and take aim. I look away before I shoot. I hear what sounds like something fall to the ground and bite my lip. I feel a hand on me and see Caroline giving me an understanding look. I just shake me head no and start to get up when I hear the others run other to where the man now lay.

I run to a tree a few feet ahead and look over to the group of men and women and tell Caroline to come. We make it a few more trees away before they finally start looking for us again. We're only a few yards away from the lake when they see us.

They didn't speak just fire and I heard Caroline scream. I turn around so fast I almost give myself whiplash from when I stop myself. She has a hand over her shoulder but is surprisingly not crying. We keep running and I make her get in front of me since they're behind us.

We make it to the lake and I tell Caroline to go left, where I saw a fallen tree.

"I don't care! Go after them! Now!," I hear the voice of their gang leader from behind. I then hear more shots fired and me and Caroline duck our heads down and continue to run to the tree.

"I'll lead them off where we're going. You cross and I'll keep them after me. I'll meet you in five minutes okay," I whisper.

     "No!," she whispers back.

"I'll meet you up there... I promise."

We come across the tree and she gives me a look filled with grief, and worry. I give her a weak smile and keep running. After I'm a few feet away from the tree, I turn and fire my own ammo. Surprisingly they don't come after Caroline. Thank god.

That's when I see the fence. It has to be at least two feet above my head.

"Should we go for the other?," one of the women in the gang asks, with a weird twinkle in her eyes. Like she wants him to say yes. After I think about it a shiver runs through me.

"No. Let her go. This one is the one who shot our men..."

A sigh of relief goes through me as I try to climb the fence. I'm almost over it when I feel a hand pull me back and onto the ground. I grab my gun and try to get a hold on it but the man grabs it and throws it across the lake, or creak or what ever it is, so it lands on the other side. You have got to be kidding me.

"So... what have here?," the leader asks.

"Just let me go okay? I was panic shooting alright? I was worried..." I lie.

"Well then that would mean disowning our own rule... and we can't have that can we Sabrina," he asks a girl. She was the one who ran over to the man I first shot.

"I don't want her to die," the girl states. Thank you! "I want her to suffer. Just like I have to." Oh no. You have to be joking... I would rather die than suffer after what they're ganna do to me... Shit.

"Hmm," the man thinks still pining me to the ground.

"Alright. For Jack and Joey."

"Let her go," she says, and the leader gets off me. "Get up."

I don't move. Just sit there. What kind of sick game is she ganna play with me? What's ganna happen to me?

"I said get up!," the girl startles me. This time I do.

She gets out knifes. Not just knifes. Throwing knifes. I'm near the water. Maybe I can go in and get away? It's better then not trying to getaway at all. I turn to dive in the water when I feel the sharp blade run across my left shoulder. I can tell it's not deep and jump into the water. The ice cold water, that I just figured out was ice cold. I go to the bottom and work my way across. But when I surface I see she's in the water to.

I turn and run once I'm out of the water. I turn to see where she is when a knife starts to come at me in what feels like slow motion. I hit the deck just in time but feel the gash that was made. I get up and run again. I see my gun and grab it just as I was about to pass it. I turn to fire but have blood blinding me in my left eye. I wipe it away and then fire. I then see her fall to the ground, but the others don't follow. Just stand there, but I keep running anyway.

With my brown hair probably covered in blood I keep running and find a street. I then see Caroline running at me. She has a shocked and worried expression on her face. The last thing I see is the top of a tree and Caroline running over before I blackout.
