"This is going to be the most awkward car ride ever," Veronica complains from the passenger seat as they were driving to pick Sophie up.
Madison really wasn't in the mood to hear Veronica's complaining. She had been running off an hour of sleep at most, she was practically a zombie.
"It won't be that bad, just play nice and you'll be fine,"
Veronica groans, "Doesn't she have any other friends who can pick her up?"
"If she did, don't you think she would have already been doing that?" Madison rolls her tongue over her teeth, the trailer park approaching.
"Ronnie, if I hear a single comment about her house or any bullshit like that, I will kick your ass, understand?"
Veronica rolls her eyes, "I'll be on my best behavior,"
Madison pulls up to the trailer, the beat up pickup truck being absent from the driveway.
Sophie looks up as she sees the car, putting out her smoke on the bottom of her boot, slinging her bag over her shoulder.
It had been three days since the assembly.
Five days since Liz's death, and over a week since Laura Matthews, and the police had nothing.
Madison could see the frustration growing within her father as they had no leads, no evidence to who it could be. Madison however, was growing frustrated by how little everyone else cared. Her teammates, her friends, were at risk, and it seemed like no one gave a shit. "Hey," Sophie hops in the back seat, buckling her seatbelt.
"Hey, Soph," Madison smiles, beginning to drive again.
Veronica doesn't say anything, instead playing with Madison's radio, Sophie cringing as she puts on Wheezer.
"What's the prob?" Veronica looks back
Sophie shrugs, "Nothing, I just, didn't take you as a Wheezer fan,"
"Do you not like them?"
"Does anyone?"
Veronica huffs, slumping in her seat, "Yeah, a lot of people actually,"
"Okay," Sophie responds.
Nothing else is said the rest of the way to school, Madison sips her coffee, her eyes heavy from the lack of sleep she had been getting.
"I can't believe we are starting practices again," Veronica complains. "We're down Liz, once means that we need to bring another JV alternate in and our chances are slimming,"
Madison squints her eyes, "Are you serious?"
Sophie looks up from the back seat as Madison turns to face her best friend after pulling into a parking spot.
"What?" Veronica asks.
Madison glares, "That's what you're upset about? That we might not win a fucking soccer game? Not the fact that our friends are dead?"
Veronica shakes her head, "I didn't mean it like-"
"No. I think you did. God Veronica, it's like you're a fucking sociopath," she hisses,

"Madison, don't be dramatic,"
"Don't be a fucking bitch, how about that?" she snaps,
grabbing her bag, "God. I can't even fucking believe you,"
Madison gets out of her car, slamming the door as she storms into the school, leaving Sophie and Veronica in her car.
"Nice going," Sophie says sarcastically, following Madison, trying to catch up to her.
"Mad's, slow the fuck down,"
Sophie grasps at her wrist, pulling them aside to the side of the hall.
Madison sighs, "Sorry,"
"Why are you apologizing? She deserved that. I would've been way meaner," she pauses, "But, what's going on? You seem...off,"
"I just haven't been getting much sleep. I'm okay,"
Sophie smirks, "What, can't sleep if I'm not with you?"
"Don't flatter yourself, Parker,"
"I don't need to flatter myself when you already flatter me," she follows as Madison walks to her locker.
"How's your head?"
"Better," Sophie replies simply, leaning against the lockers.
"Really?"
"Mhm, It still hurts but, that's kinda a given?"
"How about your cheek? Is eating getting easier?"
"I mean, it doesn't feel like my cheek is getting scraped with a scalpel whenever I eat, so a wins a win,"
"That's good, how are things you know...at home?"
Sophie sighs, "Fine. Everything is fine, okay?"
Madison nods, "I have Calc, Talia will kill me if I'm late," she cringes at the word usage, "I'll see you later,"

Sophie nods, watching as the brunette walks away.

"Hey, Walker,"
Madison nods at Talia, slumping in her desk.
"You look like shit,"
Madison glares at her, "Thanks."
"No problem,"
Madison goes to respond, but stops when Joanna walks into the classroom.
"Joanna?"
She smiles, "Hi Maddie, Talia,"
"What are you doing here?"
"Oh. I got moved into Calculus,"
"Really?" Talia raises a brow.
Joanna nods, "Mhm, can I sit with you guys?"
The girls nod, Joanna takes a seat, Madison shifts as Joanna's gaze continues to flick on her.
She listened as Joanna talked Talia's ear off about how she was doing the makeup and prosthetics for the Drama department, and how she was getting good at the more 'gory stuff'.
Madison tunes her out, trying to focus on Calculus.
