Renesmee's POV
"Ugh, I am so pumped for the Summer Bash," Quil states before taking another slice of the watermelon on the counter.
"You're just excited to scope out the girls," Embry says with a scoff.
"Oh, what and you're not?" Quil mocks back.
"You both are dogs." Leah pipes in before snagging the bowl of watermelon off the table.
"Hey! I'm not finished with that!" Quil shouts with a mouth full of watermelon.
"Looks to me you are." She says back before walking back into her house. Quil rolls his eyes and sinks into his chair. We were currently in the backyard of the Clearwater residence. It was an abnormally sunny day today and it was just nice to take it in."Do you even plan on helping set up?" I question Quil making him purse his lips.
"Yes..." He responds making Jacob and Embry snicker out. "What?"
"You said that last year." Jacob deadpans.
"Okay and? I did, didn't I?" He questions.
"Dude, pushing one piece of driftwood out of the main pathway is not helping set up." Seth's voice booms. I turn around and watch him walk over to his mother's car while holding four boxes stuffed to the brim with decorations. His long hair that he had been growing out the past few years had been thrown up in a man bun.
"It fell on me okay! It hurt." He states and I laugh out as the memory flashes into my mind. "It's not funny!" I laugh harder at the statement.
"You're such a baby." Jake laughs out.
"Your baby," Quil states and leans toward Jacob with his lips puckered. Jacob lifts his hand and covers Quil's full face before pushing him away.
"You two knock it off and help load stuff up." Sue Clearwater's voice rings out.
"Yes Ma'am!" Quil states and quickly jumps up. We were all quick to load stuff up into her car that way she could head over to La Push to start setting things up and get there before everyone else."You sure you don't want to come with me?" I question as Jake shuts the trunk of my car.
"Although I would love to, Pack duties come first." He says with a small smile plastered on his face. Sue about 40 minutes ago and we were taking our time loading up the rest of the things into my car. I smile and sigh before reaching my arms out in a motion to hug him. He envelops me in his arms and sighs. "Promise I'll be there as soon as the Pack meeting is over. Shouldn't take too long." I pull away and look at him with a sly look.
"That better be the case," I respond and he smiles.
"I promise." He states before kissing me on the cheek. He grabs my hand leading me to the passenger side of my car and opens up the front door for me. I peck his cheek before getting in and he shuts the door behind me. "Drive safe!"
"I will!" I reply before driving off down Clearwater's dirt driveway. I soon found myself at LaPush Beach. There were already a good amount of people gathered there, more than last year, which made me happy because that meant we had more help with decorating. I get out of my car, lightly shutting the door, and make my way onto the beach itself. I was quick to spot Sue and noticed she was talking to two familiar-looking people. As I got closer I picked up on that they were talking about me."Yes! She needs more girlfriends. She only hangs out with Seth and the others. You know how they are." I hear Sue says with a light-hearted laugh. She's not wrong I guess.
"My ears are burning. You all are talking about me?" I question and approach the group.
"Speak of the devil!" Sue states and walks over to me. I smile and hug her again even though I just saw her at her house. "Come, let me introduce you." She says and motions me to follow her back to the group of people she was talking to. "Renesmee, this is Skipper and Daria, you remember them right?" I turned to look at the two people she was talking about."Oh, of course! Nice to see you both again." I greet and wave my hand in greeting. I've only met Skipper and Daria a few times. Both of them were very secluded people, living in a beach shack on the edge of Forks that sat overlooking LaPush Beach and the Pacific Ocean. I could see it way off in the distance. Daria seemed to come out of her shell more over the past few years. She became close to Sue, which worked out because Grandpa Charlie and Skipper were relatively close too.
"Good to see you too dear," Daria responds with a soft smile on her face.
"You've grown a lot. I feel like it hasn't been that long since I've seen you." Skipper states causing me to awkwardly laugh.
"I eat my greens and drink my milk," I tell him while holding a double thumbs up.
"Nessie, this is Skipper and Daria's grandaughter, Nixie. She's here visiting for the year." Sue states and motions toward the girl who stands slightly off to the side of her grandparents. The girl turns her attention to me and we automatically lock eyes. I felt my face turn blank as I looked at her.She was gorgeous, almost vampiric gorgeous, but I knew she was not one. Her olive skin was sun-kissed, and her long wavy hair was a mixture of warm browns and blondes, but it didn't look dyed. Her eyes almost seemed like a shade of purple, but I knew there was no such thing as purple eyes in humans unless they had albinism, so I'd say they were just a very unique blue. She held my eye contact, which surprised me. Most humans I have noticed were unable to do so. Auntie Rosalie said it's just because I'm too beautiful and gave off an aura humans are not used to. This girl though, had no issue. And she had an aura I had not seen or felt before.
"I'm Nixie. Nixie Blue." She introduces herself while sticking out her hand. "Nice to meet you." Her words take me out of thought and I blink a few times before smiling at her.
"I'm Renesmee Cullen. But, you can call me Nessie." I introduce myself and shake her hand. "Nice to meet you too."
"Nessie, why don't you and Nixie head to the table over there and start decorating the picnic tables," Sue suggests.
"Oh, yeah we can do that!" I respond with a smile. I turn to look at the girl named Nixie. Before I could speak she does though.
"Lead the way." I nod at her and we walk off to the table Sue was talking about.Nixie's POV
I stood next to Renesmee as I helped her unpack some of the decorations. We stood in silence for a bit, but it wasn't that type of silence that was uncomfortable oddly enough.
"So, you're here visiting?" She questions and I nod.
"Yeah, it's the first time in a while that I've seen my grandparents," I tell her and she nods.
"So, where are you originally from?" She asks making me pause. Imagine if I just straight up told this girl I'm from the Bikini Bottom or something. I held back a laugh at the thought. I notice her side eye me due to me not responding.
"Oh uh, well, it's kinda odd to explain. I never really felt like I could call anywhere home. My parents travel a lot, so I've lived everywhere. Nowhere longer than a year now that I think about it." I respond to her and she nods in understanding.
"Well, that's cool. Wish I was as well traveled as you." She states making me shrug.
"It has its pros and cons. Hoping that one day I can just settle down and call one place home forever." I tell her and scratch my head.
"Well, I'm sure you'll like Forks!" She says excitedly and grabs a handful of streamers. As Renesmee and I decorated the picnic table I realized we had a decent amount in common. I was a year older than her. Nessie told me she was 17 while I was 18. We also had some common interests and hobbies like music."You'll have to teach me piano sometime," I tell her as I tape down the streamers around the picnic table.
"I'm not that great. My dad is still teaching me." She sheepishly responds. It went quiet again for a few before she spoke up. "I'm assuming you're Nerissa's sister?"
"Yes, I am. You met her?" I question. I guess Nerissa made quite a few acquaintances when she was here. I just couldn't help but wonder why she didn't like living here while she was here. I mean, so far the area is beautiful and everyone seems nice."Yes, I did! Wouldn't say I was super close to her though. She was actually close friends with my mom." Nessie explains with a smile before pausing. "Hey, whatever happened to her?" I raise a brow at her question.
"What do you mean?" I asked and stopped what I was doing waiting for a response. I don't know why, but I felt my anxiety trickle up a little.
"She just disappeared out of nowhere one day. No goodbye or anything. My mom was kind of sad about it." She states simply. I watched as she set up some other decorations around the table area before going back to what I was doing."Oh, yeah she didn't really care for it here I guess?" I tell her causing her to give me a dissatisfied look. "Nerissa is very much a homebody." I quickly add. I didn't want Renesmee to think it was because of her or other people here, even though I knew it was partly because of that from what I've heard. "She missed us and her friends back home." Renesmee nods in understanding.
"Well, I hope wherever she is she is doing good." She states causing me to nod and smile. I had an odd feeling that Renesmee was trying to analyze me. Figure me out. I felt she was almost suspicious of me. I knew it was just my anxiety though because I've said nothing to raise suspicion."Nessie!" A males voice rings out causing me to turn toward it. I see a group of four men with russet skin approaching. Their energy and vibration was overwhelming to me. Strong. Loud.
"Jake!" Renesmee calls out before running over to the group. I watched as the guy who called her name enveloped her in his arms, picking her up and spinning her around. They looked like a couple out of a romance book.
"Ugh, get a room!" One of the boys yells childishly making the guy I assume named Jake put Nessie down and punch the guy that spoke. I tried not to listen in on their conversation, I felt bad for eavesdropping. It didn't seem that Renesmee was going to return over to where I was. We did finish what we were instructed to do after all. I looked around and noticed everyone was in their own conversations and setting up things. So, I took the moment to wander off, exploring La Push Beach.
