The two days flew by in a blur, and before I knew it, the day of the summer bash had arrived. I settled in front of my vanity, styling my hair while music filled the room.
"Are you excited?" Nessie asked, glancing over with a smile.
"Absolutely! From what you and the others have said, the Summer Bash sounds like a blast," I replied. Nessie had offered to get ready with me and help with my makeup, which made the day even more special. We exchanged phone numbers when her and Jake dropped me off after the night we went to Carver Cafe.
As I finished styling my hair, Nessie rummaged through my makeup collection, which was really Nerissa's that she left here. "Let's go for something simple, but that will highlight your features!" She exclaims while pulling stuff out.
I nodded, feeling a rush of excitement. "Definitely! Let's make it unforgettable."
We spent the next hour laughing and chatting while getting ready, the anticipation building with every brushstroke and swipe of eyeshadow. The air was filled with a mix of our favorite songs and the sweet scent of the perfume I had chosen for the night. I soon found myself at La Push beach with Nessie by my side. We walked on the soft through the crowds of people. I didn't expect this many people to show. My eyes wandered around specifically looking for Seth. And once again, like magic, as soon as I saw him our eyes locked.
His smile lit up the twilight like the bonfire crackling nearby, and I felt a flutter in my stomach as I returned it. Seth was standing with Jake and the others, his laid-back demeanor effortlessly charming. Dressed in a simple t-shirt and shorts, and his long hair resting perfectly down, he looked completely at ease, and the sight made my heart race.
"I'm going to head to Jake!" Nessie nudged me with a smile. "You should go talk to Seth!" She encouraged, adjusting her own outfit—a flowy sundress that danced around her legs as she moved. I watched as she walked over to Jake who originally was next to Seth when I spotted them, but wandered off.
Taking a deep breath, my heart pounding with each step toward Seth. The soft sand squished beneath my feet, grounding me even as my nerves flared. When I finally reached Seth, he grinned, and his eyes sparkled.
"Hey, you made it!" he said, his voice warm and welcoming.
"Of course! I wouldn't miss it," I replied, hoping to sound casual despite the excitement bubbling just beneath my words. A brief silence settled between us, but it was comfortable, not awkward.
Seth glanced down at the beer bottle in his hand and chuckled. "I'd offer you some, but...," he trailed off with a teasing grin.
"Oh! I'm good, not really thirsty," I replied with a shy smile.
"You sure? I can grab you something," he offered, gesturing toward the nearby table loaded with drinks and snacks.
I couldn't resist his kindness. "Well, if you insist," I said playfully, making him smile even wider.
"Alright, I'll be right back," Seth said, already turning to head toward the table.
As Seth walked off toward the drinks table, I took a moment to steady myself. My heart was still racing from the way his smile had made me feel, and the cool evening breeze brushing against my skin helped me calm down. I glanced around the beach, taking in the bonfires dotting the shoreline, groups of friends laughing and chatting, and the sound of the waves crashing softly against the shore. Everything felt perfect—like one of those summer nights you'd remember forever.
Before I could get too lost in thought, Seth returned, holding a soda in one hand and a bottle of water in the other. "Thought you might want options," he said with a grin.
