"Jesus Christ! Only forty-five minutes are left to the auction and you're here playing games", Kayla, Remi's best friend and co-partner of their company, complained.

"Relax, the venue is only fifteen minutes away by car and it will take another fifteen minutes for me to get ready. I have already taken a shower and done my makeup as well. So, I can still play for fifteen minutes", Remi replied in a relaxed tone.

The tone never fails to send chills down Kayla's spine. She will never understand how this person is always optimistic and relaxed. Sure enough, Remi didn't budge as she continued playing for a while until her timer went off. Immediately she threw the controller at Kayla who caught it just in time and soon enough, she was out of sight.

Kayla shook her head and got to work. By the time Remi got ready, Kayla had already turned off the game and had done cleaning Remi's living room, all the while nagging like an Asian mother.

No sooner had Remi walked into the living room, than she grabbed her best friend and her purse and made a beeline for her car. Once in the car, Kayla sighed while putting on her seat belt, and she spoke, "Let's commence the hell ride".

And it was true. The original fifteen minutes ride was reduced to ten minutes and those ten minutes were some of the most horrifying ten minutes in Kayla's life. It's not that Remi is a bad driver. In fact, she is an amazing driver and has also competed in car races previously. But every time she has to reach somewhere within a stipulated period of time, she tends to forget that she is not on the race track. Hence, she starts taking the routes where there are no obligations of speed limit or cops and starts riding as if it's the last ride of their lives.

Kayla has faced the situation of almost saying "Hola" to Grim Reaper so many times, that now she is too lazy to even care. If someone were to see them like this, they would think one is ready to kill while the other is ready to die. Soon enough, this killer duo entered the auction premise through the back door. And they took their designated seats just in time as the auction started.

Remi looked at Kayla and winked causing Kayla to roll her eyes in disbelief. She will never understand Remi. Because she is not a lazy optimistic person, rather a calculative one. It's her calculation and positive attitude that made her one of the top directors nationwide.

Remi's eyes weren't on the auction, rather they were on a woman dressed in dark green jumpsuit with her hair pinned up in a bun. There was something charismatic about her. Or maybe it was her confidence that caught the director's attention. While other writers seemed to be rather apprehensive about the sale of their books, she seemed nonchalant.

Her dark brown, doe eyes were darting around lazily while sipping wine. Soon they were met with Remi's, causing a shiver to run down the director's spine. And Remi was quick to spot the confidence and security on them. Although their eye contact didn't last long, something told Remi that she must approach this woman. It wasn't anything weird, she simply wanted to get to know this writer who peaked her interest.

In the midst of her thought, she noticed that the woman's eyes had fixated on the stage. The announcement was made for "Blue Mid-night". What surprised her was that the listing price was merely a million but the bid will keep increasing by a million each time someone makes a bid.

Remi started searching all about the book, and realized that this writer was from a very small publishing house. It was her first time at an auction like this. May be that is the reason why the bar is set so low.
