"I was under the impression that you weren't coming. Seeing as where our last conversation ended, I decided to go back to plan A and revisit the conversation with Rake...."

Kira Volkov stood by the rich paint-coated walls. Adorned with a hall of photos edited in big golden frames to hang. The dates dated back to centuries ago, pictures taken of thousands of teams who faced difficult challenges in their prime and managed to earn something so big like this.

They were probably dead right now. The listed missions named on the golden plate below the pictures taken were suicidal missions. More dangerous than the ones she took.

"Well, I'm here now, so..." she trailed off, not necessarily any meaning behind it, she just wanted this awkward conversation between herself and nik to possibly end, right now. Kira never did well in conversations she knew were being started to just wholly get rid of the awkwardness, but yet, it only seems to worsen it.

Not make it better.

"You want me to get rid of Rake?" The question was laced with nik being unsure. Her gaze lingering on Kira's frame who wasn't completely oblivious to the eyes wandering on her, with her back turned and hands crossed over her chest, she could practically feel nik's gaze burning through the back of her head.

"You said it, not me"

"Kira"

"What's his full name? All I've been hearing is Rake this, Rake that." Nik gave her a look. "What? I'd like to put a name to the face I'm gonna be staring at for next, what? Three weeks?"

"Five. I thought I'd have to fight you on that. ...But since when were you okay with having a partner outside the elite team?" She crossed her arms, staring at Kira with a raised eyebrow.

"Since two minutes ago when I first saw him. Is this where the infamous rake sat?" Kira pointed to the chair she knew he had sat in. Still, going far as to ask before sitting herself down on the chair very slowly with a consent look plastered over her face. Nik scoffed with a small smile, her hand coming out to slap the side of her arm.

"His name is Tyler." She rounded her desk to take a seat beside Kira. "And I'm telling you now, Kira. He's nothing like Nash"

Kira scoffed, propping both of her legs up to rest and dangle off the armrest to her left. "No one's like Nash. Which is the beauty of it all because I'm pretty sure if he wasn't an asshole, we'd still be together"

Nik slowly shook her head in a state of disbelief. "I still can't believe he managed to actually get you to date him in the first place"

"Is it too late now to say that it was a dare from Bowie?" Nik laughed, and soon Kira joined in with a chuckle.

Nik missed this, and she loved it. Although under difficult circumstances regarding a job Kira stopped a long time ago. Nik liked the feeling of having her back even if she was the one that made her leave. Call it nostalgia, seeing an old friend who she shared many memories and secrets with. Back in the same office they'd stand in side by side whenever they were called in because of Kira's mischievous side that always seemed to drag nik down with her.

It almost felt like nothing changed. But things always change, they weren't 22 and 21 anymore. Nik was no longer just a regular black market mercenary and Kira no longer held the title of elite captain of the 2008 team. They were 32, and 31 now, their connection broke off during the 10 years apart which nik always took the blame for, and people around the world took advantage of their age and statice.

At some point nik always visioned the two lasting as best friends. But then Angelo happened and suddenly it was like she didn't even know who her "best friend" was. A calculated killer all in the spam of seconds after just one conversation with him.

Though, still, Nik couldn't find it in herself to hate her, or dislike her. She was still her friend, and at the end of the day, all the bad things that went down in Kira's life- she couldn't help but feel like she played a major part in it. She was the one who suggested to Kira that she should speak to him. She was the one who thought it was a good idea to try and befriend him and pose as innocent bystanders.

"Nik?" Kira's voice sounded disoriented. Far and distant yet so close to her ear. She lifted her head to look at Kira who stared at her in concern, snapping her fingers in front of her face to possibly bring her back down from the heavy cloud she found herself suffocating in.

"You okay?"

Nik could only nod, her vision clearing and Kira's voice calming back down to normal. Her slightly shaking hands rested in the hands of Kira who squeezed them tightly. Misinterpreting the situation greatly. "Hey. It's okay, I'm gonna find him and I'm gonna end this. Permanently"

"That's not what I'm worried about" she looked deeply into the eyes of Kira. "The last time you were in the same sights as Angelo, you went rogue. You did things that you normally wouldn't do. It was like you changed"

"I never should've came to you that day"

Kira shook her head, kneeling down on the ground and cupping both sides of Nik's face. She wiped the single tear rolling down the side of her cheek and firmly pulled her in to press both their foreheads to touch. A silent peace lingered in the air. "Me going rogue wasn't your fault Nik. I was alone, and handling the mission by myself with no stability, and I was younger...this is different, in so many ways this is different nik."

The woman nodded her head and leaned back. Wiping the remaining tears from her wet eyelids, she stood up and sniffled quietly. "I spoke to your team" direction the topic of conversation elsewhere, Kira stood up from the ground.

"Yeah?"

"Yes. I told them about Angelo, but they're only willing to come back if you come back. That much they made very clear over the phone"

"That won't be a problem" she went through files sorted and scattered on the glass desk. Pushing the one she was looking for toward Nik who glanced down.

"Archie's already in. I spoke to him before coming here" nik nodded her head.

"And Nash?"

"Don't need him"

"Kira-"

"We don't, need him" Stating sternly with no term of negotiation in between the thick words. Nik looked away with a slight huff of air seeping out her parted lips. Getting Nash and Kira in the same room might turn out to be more difficult than anything she's done in her life. Granted the two separated on good terms as what nik assumed- Kira still didn't want to see him. Saying something along the lines of "leaving the past in the past and focusing on the now"

She knew Kira at some point would eventually swallow her pride and see Nash. He was the only person she knew well enough to trust for a certain amount of time with the things he sells.

"Alright. I'll get Yaz on the phone" Kira nodded, watching as Nik left through the double doors made of pure glass and nothing else. She looked back down toward the files belonging to her ex team. Shaking her head slightly she smiled to herself at the familiar sight of them all.
