After the meeting, Sakura and I walked in silence, the weight of everything that had been said hanging between us. I could feel her glancing at me from the corner of her eye, like she was trying to find the right words.
Sakura looked at me with a mix of frustration and sadness in her eyes. "So you knew about Sasuke leaving the village?"
I met her gaze, feeling the weight of the truth between us. I nodded slowly. "Yes, I knew," I admitted, my voice steady. "But... me meddling too much would lead to something I haven't seen."
Her expression faltered, and she took a deep breath, trying to make sense of it all. "But why? Why didn’t you try to stop him?"
"I wanted to," I replied, my tone calm but filled with the emotions I had kept buried. "But I realized that if I interfered, it could have led to even worse consequences. I couldn’t predict what would happen if I changed too much."
Sakura’s hands balled into fists at her sides. "It’s so hard to accept, Kaya. To know that you had the power to stop it but chose not to."
I took a step closer to her, my eyes never leaving hers. "I know how hard it is, Sakura. But I also know that some things need to happen for us to grow, to become stronger. I wasn’t going to take that away from you, from any of us. It’s painful, but it’s a part of our journey."
Tears welled up in her eyes, but she blinked them back, trying to hold onto her composure. "It still hurts."
"I know it does," I whispered, reaching out to gently squeeze her shoulder. "But we’ll get through this together. You’re not alone in this, and neither is Sasuke. We’re all connected, no matter where our paths take us."
Sakura nodded, her voice cracking slightly as she spoke. "Thank you for being honest with me, Kaya. It means a lot."
I offered her a small, reassuring smile.
Sakura stopped walking and faced me, her expression a mix of concern and confusion. "Why didn’t you tell us sooner? Why did you carry this burden alone?"
I sighed, trying to find the right way to explain. "Because I didn’t want to change the way you all saw me. I was scared it would put a distance between us, and I didn’t want to risk that. But… you deserve to know the truth."
She looked down, her brows furrowing in thought. "It just… it feels like everything we’ve been through, you were dealing with so much more than we realized."
"It’s not about me handling things on my own," I said softly, reaching out to touch her arm. "We’re a team, and I’m here for you just as much as you’re here for me. That hasn’t changed."
Sakura met my gaze, her eyes softening. "I guess… I just wish you’d trusted us enough to share this earlier."
"I do trust you, Sakura. More than anyone," I assured her, feeling a pang of guilt. "But now that you know, we’ll face whatever comes next together, okay?"
She smiled, a small but genuine one. "Okay. Together."

The entire day was consumed by preparations for the impending attack. Strategizing, checking every detail, and making sure nothing was overlooked. I barely had a moment to myself, let alone a chance to talk to Itachi about our situation. The weight of unspoken words hung heavy in the air between us, but there was no time to address it.
As I finally laid down on my bed, exhaustion washed over me. My muscles ached from the constant activity, and my mind was clouded with thoughts of what tomorrow would bring. Tomorrow was the wedding—Asuma and Kurenai’s big day. It was a rare moment of joy amidst the looming danger, and I couldn’t help but hope that everything would go smoothly.
