Chapter 2:
It was the next day, and Artemis and Damon were waiting for Bonnie, who had said she needed to retrieve something from her Grams' house. While Artemis occupied herself with one of the books she had found in the living room, Damon danced to the music and attempted to make pancakes.
Damon held a whole bottle of bourbon in his left hand and a spatula in his right, flipping the pancakes. Artemis groaned from her seat on the stool. 'Is it really necessary to get drunk while making pancakes? I don't want alcohol in your already burnt pancakes; they're probably disgusting enough. And while we're at it, turn down the music.'
Damon shot Artemis an annoyed look as Bonnie entered the kitchen. She cleared her throat. "I didn't know you cooked."
"I don't. How'd you sleep? Me, not good. My 1994 mattress was very lumpy," Damon replied.
Artemis closed the book and set it aside. "What do you have there?" She eyed the teddy bear in her hand.
"Miss Cuddles. I lost her when I was nine. But I went into my house last night, and there she was--"Bonnie showed them an old book—Grams' grimoire. "--I also found this at my Grams' house. Her old grimoire."
"Yeah, well, I found this--" Damon raised his bourbon bottle and sauntered over to the radio. "--I drank it last year when Ric died."
"So we're in this snapshot of another time or something," Artemis began as Damon removed the old CD from the radio and reached for a new one. 'Everything that existed in 1994 still exists.'
"For better or for worse." Damon kissed the new CD and inserted it into the radio, prompting Bonnie to quickly turn it off.
"Listen, there was a time when I couldn't practice magic. This grimoire taught me a lot. Maybe I can reteach myself," Bonnie suggested.
Artemis observed them closely, tapping her right foot thoughtfully.
"If you're still a witch, which, with our luck and your skill, probably ain't the case," Damon walked past Bonnie, who rolled her eyes.
"Would a little support kill you?"
"I am acutely aware that we are in some otherworldly time dimension. However, did you ever think for one second that maybe it's you being negative, reacting to my natural self negatively?" Damon retorted to Bonnie.
"You're ridiculous," Artemis scoffed next to Bonnie and helped herself to a plate of pancakes.
'No, I'm consistent--" Damon corrected, grabbing a new plate, placing two pancakes on it, and sliding it toward Bonnie. "Now, eat your pancakes. Oh, and--" Damon picked up a newspaper and placed it in front of Bonnie, offering a fake smile. "--You can do a crossword puzzle.'
