Harry's POV
The early morning light filtered softly through the frosted windows of the Gryffindor dormitory, casting a cozy glow over the room. Harry blinked awake, his excitement bubbling as he realized it was Christmas morning. The room was quiet, save for the gentle snores of his fellow Gryffindors, but Harry could already feel the day's magic.
Just as he was about to get up, he heard Ron's voice echoing downstairs.
"Harry, wake up! Come on, Harry, wake up!"
Harry quickly sat up, grabbed his glasses, and scrambled out of bed. He hurried to the balcony overlooking the common room, where he spotted Ron standing beside the Christmas tree. Ron was already dressed and wearing a bright maroon sweater with a large "R" knitted on the front.
"Happy Christmas, Harry," Ron called up to him with a wide grin.
"Happy Christmas, Ron," Harry replied, grinning back. "What are you wearing?"
Ron glanced down at his sweater and shrugged with a sheepish smile. "Oh, Mum made it for me. Looks like you've got one too!"
Harry's eyes widened in surprise as he saw the pile of presents at the foot of his bed. "I've got presents?"
"Yeah!" Ron confirmed, his voice filled with excitement.
Harry dashed down the stairs, eager to see what awaited him. The sight of the gifts piled up just for him filled his heart with warmth. Growing up with the Dursleys, Christmas had never been a time of joy or presents for Harry, so this was a new and wonderful feeling.
"There they are," Ron said, sitting on the arm of the couch and munching on a box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans as Harry reached for his first gift.
Harry picked up a small, silver-wrapped package and noticed a note attached to it. He carefully unfolded the note and read aloud:
"Your father left this in my possession before he died. It is time it was returned to you. Use it well."
Curiosity piqued, Harry unwrapped the package. Inside, he found a silky, shimmering fabric. It was an invisibility cloak.
Ron's eyes went wide as Harry held up the cloak. "What is it?" Ron asked, leaning forward with interest.
"It's some kind of... cloak," Harry said, still trying to comprehend what he was holding.
"Well, let's see then. Put it on," Ron urged, his voice full of anticipation.
Harry draped the cloak around himself, and to his astonishment, his body vanished, leaving only his head visible.
"Whoa!" Ron exclaimed, jumping up from the couch. "Your body's gone!"
Harry looked down at himself, or rather, where his body should have been. "I'm invisible?" he said in disbelief.
Ron nodded vigorously. "I know what that is! That's an invisibility cloak! They're really rare. I wonder who gave it to you."
Harry glanced at the note again, still puzzled. "There was no name. It just said, 'Use it well.'"
As the excitement of the invisibility cloak buzzed between them, Harry moved on to open more gifts. Mrs. Weasley had indeed knitted him a sweater too, in a rich emerald green with an "H" on the front. He pulled it on over his pajamas, feeling its warmth and the love woven into each stitch.
From Hermione, Harry received a box of Chocolate Frogs and a carefully selected book titled "Defensive Magic for Young Wizards." He grinned, appreciating Hermione's thoughtfulness.
Ron chuckled as he opened his gift from Hermione—a planner charmed to remind him of assignments and deadlines. "Typical Hermione," Ron said with a fond smile.
Harry also unwrapped a small parcel from Hagrid, revealing a hand-carved wooden flute. It was a simple, yet meaningful gift that brought a smile to Harry's face.
Finally, Harry reached the last present—the one wrapped in deep blue paper with a note from Percy attached:
"Save me for last! - Percy"
His heart warmed at the sight of her neat handwriting. Carefully, he unwrapped the gift, revealing a small box inside. Harry opened it to find a beautiful enchanted compass. Its polished surface gleamed with an otherworldly glow, and when he touched it, the compass needle spun and pointed toward the heart of the castle. It was no ordinary compass—Harry could feel the magic within it.
Inside the box was also a folded note. Harry eagerly unfolded it and began to read:
Merry Christmas, Harry!
I hope this gift finds you well and brings a bit of magic to your holiday. This compass is enchanted to always point you toward what you need most, whether it's a person, a place, or even a feeling. I thought it might come in handy with everything going on.
I miss you and Hogwarts more than I can say. The quest has been... challenging, but I'm doing my best. Please take care of yourself and know that I'm thinking of you.
Hopefully, I'll see you soon. Until then, keep this compass close, and let it remind you that you're never truly alone.
With all my best wishes,
Percy
Harry felt a surge of emotion as he read Percy's words. The compass felt like a lifeline, a way to keep her close even when she was far away. He closed his hand around it, feeling its warmth and magic seep into his skin. It was a perfect gift—thoughtful, meaningful, and exactly what he needed.
Ron glanced over at him, noticing the look on Harry's face. "Everything alright, mate?" he asked, still chewing on a Bertie Bott's bean.
Harry smiled softly, holding the compass close. "Yeah, Ron. Everything's great."
As he looked out the window at the snow-covered grounds of Hogwarts, Harry felt a deep sense of gratitude for his friends, for this place, and for the connection he still had with Percy, no matter how far away she was.
"Merry Christmas, Percy," Harry whispered to himself, feeling a warmth that went beyond the sweater he was wearing.
