We hurry into the laboratory just in time and take our seats.

"Ah. You must be my new homeroom students." The professor looks over to me. "Hm, that's quite the unusual coat of fur. Do make sure that you arrive properly groomed."

I blush slightly out of embarrassment.

He looks back at the class. "My name is Divus Crewel. You may call me Master Crewel. Now, take your seats. Class is about to begin. We're going to start with the basics." He pulls out a riding crop with a red collar attached to the end making me and everyone else gulp. "And by that, I mean beating the names and distinguishing characteristics of one hundred herbs and poisons into your tiny brains. The mycelia are another matter. But eventually. I'm hopeful you'll be able to take a walk without putting anything poisonous into your gaping maws. For now, I realize you have all the self-control of voracious hounds. But I will not abide a single student failing this class. Expect to be drilled accordingly."

"Huh. So...does anyone know what a mycelia is?" Deuce questions.

Ace groans. "I've never been one for like, memorizing what things are, ya know?"

Girm puts his paws on his hips. "All I care about is how to tell the yummy plants from the yucky ones."

I flip through the book that was on everyone's desk when we walked in. "It looks like it's short for mycelium, which is a network of thin fungal strands called hyphae that forms the vegetative body of a fungus."

"I understood some of that." Deuce looks over my shoulder.

We walk into the history classroom where an older man stands behind his desk, a fluffy, black and white cat in his arms.

"I am your History of Magic teacher, Mozus Trein. And this is my familiar, Lucius. You are here to learn the rich history of magic, and how it has sculpted the world which you now so easily take for granted."

Lucius meows, seemingly displeased like his owner.

"I grade based on classroom behavior as well as the quality of work. Don't let me catch you sleeping. Now, let us open our books to page fifteen. This section concerns the magestones discovered in the Dwarfs' Mine..."

Lucius meows again.

"As knowledge and awareness of magical energy began to spread across the globe from this point, this year is considered Year One of the Magic Era." Mr. Trien's voice is soft and therapeutic, so much so that even his cat seems to be having trouble staying awake.

Ace yawns next to me, his head falling on my shoulder.

I smile and let out a small laugh.

"Fascinating... "Dwarfs' Mine"... Mhm, mhm... "magical energy"..." Deuce seems the most awake out of us, excitingly writing down notes.

"Maaan... When do we get to the classes where we blow stuff up with magic?" Grim groans.

The next class is P.E and as everyone gets changed in the changing room, I get changed in the bathrooms.

The uniform is a little tight around my chest seeing as it's made for boys and I don't have any sneakers so I'm going to have to wear my slightly oversized school shoes.

"Are you guys ready to head out?" I walk up to the guys.

Deuce nods and Ace looks at my shoes.

"Shouldn't you put on sneakers?" Ace asks with his hands behind his head.
