Her Pack

Nathaniel

A male doctor waved me through an open doorway and hurried us into an exam room with a few nurses close behind him. I sat on the table with her in my arms, growling lowly but burying my nose in her hair as I tried to reign my wolf fully in.

"Nathaniel I know your wolf is worried about your mate but we need to be able to fully examine her to grasp the extent of her injuries." the doctor spoke in a calm tone and I growled warningly. "I know but she is human and unmarked, my wolf is losing it right now." I bit out and he nodded. "I understand. I will swap with Dr. Quinn at once and make sure she has female staff, wait just a moment."

He quickly disappeared and pulled the male nurse with him, leaving only the two female nurses and my wolf settled a bit. Seconds later Dr. Quinn rushed in and directed me to carefully place her on the exam table. She examined her injured arm closely and quickly wrapped it to try and slow the bleeding. She then cut away Ivy's clothes to fully examine the rest of her body before slipping a hospital gown over her all within a minute.

"It appears as though her right arm is the only major injury thankfully but she has severe blood loss and her pulse is weakening. We have to begin a blood transfusion immediately or her body is going to start shutting down." Dr. Quinn spoke quickly as a nurse wheeled in a gurney and they carefully transferred her over.

"You can take anything you need from me right now, I'm O negative." I growled as I held out my arm and they paused. "Okay we can do an emergency transfusion to keep her stable and then we will set up a bag and an IV after a quick x-ray to check the break." Dr. Quinn spoke quickly and methodically as she moved throughout the room gathering supplies.

One of the nurses sat me in a chair and I remained still as she inserted the needle. Blood began quickly filling the bag as she pumped and I watched with relief as Dr. Quinn carefully stuck the needle into my mate's arm and her face slowly gained more color. "Okay that should be enough for now, we need to get an x-ray so we can properly set her arm and stitch up these wounds." Dr. Quinn spoke up just as I started to feel dizzy.

"You need to stay here Nathaniel and eat and drink this." Dr. Quinn said seriously as she handed me a packaged cookie and orange juice and I growled half-heartedly. "I need to stay with my mate." I said as I tried to stand but a nurse quickly settled me back down as they wheeled Ivy away. "Sir you gave a lot of blood, you need to let your body adjust before your hurt yourself." she spoke seriously and I grumbled but remained seated.

I ate the cookie and drank the juice and begrudgingly admitted I felt better afterwards and was allowed to get up again. I immediately followed Ivy's scent and stepped inside, ignoring their protests as I sat at her side and clasped her uninjured hand in my own. I watched closely as they put in the last few stitches and then winced when they reset her bone.

They put her arm into a special metal brace as the stitches needed time to heal before they could put on a full cast and then moved her into a private room. Dr. Quinn gave her another blood transfusion and an IV for fluids before bowing her head to me. "I am going to keep her sedated overnight so that her body has some time to rest and heal after so much blood loss. You can stay here with her of course and just press this call button or link me if you need anything."

"I will. I can't thank you enough Dr. Quinn. If there is ever anything I can do for you just let me know." I murmured and she bowed her head again. "Thank you sir, I will return later this evening to check on her." Once she was gone I sat back in my chair a bit and ran a hand over my face with a sigh, my wolf pacing through my mind anxiously.

I realized then that I needed to call her parents to let them know and check on Aiden and I immediately linked Hunter. 'Hey is there any chance you can bring me my phone from my room?' I asked and he responded immediately. 'I already have it with me in the lobby, just wanted to wait until she was settled.'

'You can come back now. Is Jade with you?' I asked and he sighed. 'Yes, she is freaking out and wants to see her. Be warned she might yell at you.' he responded and I took a deep breath and firmly locked away my wolf. 'She can if she needs to, I'm in full control again.'

Moments later a whirlwind of dark hair and tears came flying through the door with a quiet Hunter behind and I winced as Jade punched me in the chest, more from guilt than pain. "I told you to watch out for her! What the hell Nate?" Jade practically growled and I sighed. "I know I'm sorry." I murmured as I hung my head and Hunter pulled her back.

"Jade its not fair to blame him, Ivy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The main thing to focus on is that she will get better, and he did kill the rogue that attacked her." Hunter spoke soothingly as he rubbed her shoulder and she turned to cry into his chest. "I know. I'm sorry Nate, I was just so scared when Hunter told me-" she sniffled and I waved her off.

"No its fine, I completely understand. I would have done the same thing." I said quietly as I held Ivy's uninjured hand once again. "I need to call her parents to let them know and check on Aiden. Will you stay with her while I do?"

"Of course, we will be right here." Hunter murmured as Jade quickly took my spot and I took the bag from his outstretched hand. "You may want to rinse off and change clothes first though." Jade sniffled again as she glanced at me and I glanced down in surprise at the dried blood covering half of my torso and some of my shorts.

"It must have been from holding Ivy when we got here, I didn't even notice. I'll be right back." I murmured and headed into the attached bathroom. I quickly bathed with the bar of soap Hunter had brought and dressed in the fresh underwear, jeans and tee shirt before stepping out again. "Thanks again for all of this." I said to Hunter and he nodded as I stepped into the hall.

I leaned against the wall as I unlocked my phone and quickly dialed Ivy's mother. "Hello? Nathaniel? Have you seen Ivy?" Julia's worried voice immediately answered and I took a deep breath. "Hey Mrs. Julia, I'm sorry it took so long to call but Ivy had an accident."

"An accident? What happened? Is she okay?"

"She's fine now, she's in the small hospital inside our community. On her jog this morning she fell and broke her arm and cut it up on some bad rocks. Thankfully though I met up with her shortly before it happened so I was able to bring her here to be treated and she's resting now."

"Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you were there Nathaniel thank you for helping my baby. Can you bring her home soon or can we come see her?"

"She ended up losing a lot of blood so the doctor wants to keep her sedated until tomorrow morning to be sure her body is okay. After that she will probably need a week or so to heal the stitches before they can place her into a full cast."

"Okay well we have Aiden so don't you two worry about him tonight, just let us know if you need anything."

"Yes ma'am we will. I'll call you tomorrow when she wakes up and let you know what the doctor says."

"Okay thank you dear, goodbye."

"Bye."

I ended the call and stepped back into Ivy's room, nodding to Hunter and Jade. "I let Julia know an abridged version of what happened and that I will call her again tomorrow. Aiden is with them of course so he should be okay." I spoke quietly and Jade sighed. "Good but he will be antsy by tomorrow, he has only ever been away from her for one night at a time." she frowned and I nodded.

"I can have them bring him up here tomorrow when she's awake and he can stay with me or my parents if he needs to." I said as I ran a hand over my face and Jade put a hand on my arm. "Don't worry, we will figure it out. And he can always stay with us too if you want." she said and I gave her a tired smile. "Thanks Jade."

"Anytime. We are going to go let the others know she's okay and bring you some food. We'll be back soon." Jade stood and gave me a hug and Hunter did the same before they headed out. I sat down and took Ivy's hand in my own and settled in to wait.
