I woke up to the warm California sun peeking through the blinds, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves of trees outside. I stretched, feeling the softness of the bed, and smiled. "GOOD MORNING LA," I said charmingly, my Russian accent still thick and rich. It is my first morning in los angeles.

I sat up, running my hands through my long, dark hair, and swung my legs over the side of the bed. My gaze fell upon the modern decor of my apartment, all thanks to my brother, Viktor. He had spared no expense in ensuring I had everything I needed to start my new life.

I stood up and went outside, my eyes scanning the living room, and spotted my bodyguard rylan, standing by the window, his eyes fixed on me. I nodded at him, and he nodded back, his expression stoic as always.

I made my way to the kitchen, where a note from Viktor awaited me. "Good luck with your first day, Amara. I'll be watching from afar. -Vik"

I smiled, feeling a mix of gratitude and annoyance. I knew Viktor meant well, but I was determined to make a life of my own, free from the shadows of my family.

I poured myself a cup of cold coffee, the only type i can tolerate and headed to the bathroom to get ready for my first day at the University of California, Los Angeles. As I dressed in a crisp white shirt and dark jeans, I felt a sense of excitement and nervousness. This was it - my chance to start a new.

I've always felt like a bird in a cage, trapped and suffocating under the weight of my family's expectations

I've always felt like a bird in a cage, trapped and suffocating under the weight of my family's expectations. Growing up as a mafia princess in the Russian mafia, yes "A mafia princess" i said. I've never known a life without control and manipulation.

But I've always dreamed of something more. I want to spread my wings and fly, to feel the wind beneath me and the sun on my face. I want to be free.

But freedom is a luxury I can't afford. My family has already decided my fate - marry well, produce heirs, and maintain the family legacy. I'm just a pawn in their game of power.

But I've fought hard to convince them to let me have this one small thing - my education. I want to graduate like a normal girl, without the weight of my family's name and reputation hanging over me. I want to feel like I've achieved something on my own, without their interference.
