Anna’s voice stunned him, it was soft and accented, like a whisper of wind through a field of wildflowers. “I am Anna,” she said, her voice carrying a quiet strength as she signaled for him to come closer. Max, still reeling from the unexpected encounter, took a hesitant step forward. Before he could fully comprehend what was happening, she continued, “I came to seduce you.”
Max’s mind raced, trying to process her words. But just as the shock of her confession began to sink in, Anna’s knee shot up, catching him completely off guard. She hit him as hard as she could between his thighs. The pain was immediate and overwhelming. Max let out a sharp yelp and crumpled to the floor in a heap beside her. His body was paralyzed with pain, his mind struggling to make sense of what had just happened.
Anna didn’t wait to see the full impact of her actions. She turned and ran, her heart pounding in her chest. She could have sworn it stopped several times as she sprinted down the hallway. Her breaths came in short, frantic gasps. She had never done anything like this before. The fear that Max might call security or, worse, chase after her gripped her, but she kept running. She knew that Max, despite his pain and shock, could easily have summoned help. Yet, for some reason, he didn’t. Maybe it was because he was already embroiled in a scandal that threatened to engulf his business empire. A scandal, she reminded herself, that was never good for the stock of a large corporation.
Anna didn’t stop until she saw the two invitations lying on a polished marble table. These were what she had come for, what she had risked her life for. She grabbed them quickly, her hands trembling, and stuffed them into her bag. Glancing back, she saw Max still on the floor, his face contorted with pain and confusion. He was too shocked to react. If he weren’t in such agony, he might have laughed at the absurdity of the situation: a woman risking jail just to steal a couple of invitations. He made a mental note to tighten security around himself, his beautiful fiancée, and his upcoming wedding. He also instructed himself to tell his security team to be on the lookout for the blonde-haired culprit who had just turned his day upside down.
But Anna was long gone before Max could do anything. Not that he wanted to chase after her—something about her didn’t fit the mold of his usual conquests. She had an unforgettable face, yet he couldn’t recall ever meeting her. So why would someone like her take such a risk for a mere invitation? The question echoed in his mind, but the answer remained elusive.
Anna didn’t stop running until she spotted Emma waiting anxiously near the gate. Without slowing down, she grabbed her friend’s hand and pulled her along. Together, they dashed out of Max’s company building, their breaths ragged from fear and adrenaline. They didn’t stop until they were safely inside a taxi. Anna leaned back against the seat, still panting heavily.
“We did it!” Anna exclaimed, struggling to catch her breath. “Let’s get out of here before Max reports this to security. You would never believe what happened,” she added, her voice trembling with excitement as she recounted the events to Emma in a few hurried sentences.
“Max? You met him?” Emma’s eyes widened in shock.
“Shhh,” Anna hissed, discreetly pointing at the taxi driver, who was already giving them a curious look in the rearview mirror. Emma quickly understood and nodded, sinking back into her seat.
When they finally reached their small apartment, they collapsed onto the bed, laughter bubbling up uncontrollably from both of them. The tension that had gripped them earlier was gone, replaced by a wild sense of exhilaration. Emma could hardly believe what Anna had dragged her into, but she knew one thing: best friends were forever. She and Anna had been inseparable for as long as she could remember, and there was no way she could have said no to her. Seeing Anna laugh again, after everything she had been through, was worth every bit of the risk. Anna’s musical laughter filled the tiny apartment, echoing off the walls, and Emma felt a warm glow of satisfaction. She was glad she had gone with her.
