Mrs Robert hastily packed a box of my favorite treat and constantly fussed about everything generally , while Mrs. Robert fussed with my hair and clothes, The doorbell was rung and when Mrs. Robert opened up I finally got to meet my parents, the power couple Mr. and Mrs. Pearson we're good looking, the huge dark brooding male with dark brown eyes and his extremely smaller fairy tale wife with green eyes and the most gorgeous of red hair. They exchanged pleasantries with Mrs. Robert, everything was quite surreal to me as I was then whisked to their fairy tale mansion where there were lots of food and no work to be done, beautiful dresses and photoshoot and I lived happily ever after. Scratch that, I wish that is how it happened, but that wasn't it at all. When I met my parents I started staring at them like you would a total stranger, which they were aside from the fact that they were my biological parents.
I watched from one adult to the other as the discussed me like I wasn't there. My mother had a carefully fixed smile on her face, you know that empty kind of smile that didn't really give out much. She glanced around the house like she couldn't wait to get out of the place. My father's face remained stoic through it all as the discussed the funeral arrangements and bills and of course Mrs Robert was given a generous amount of cash, which she declined.
I must have taken after my mom in looks where my supposed dad was dark hair Brown-eyed with all the boyish good looks and a cute dimple, dazzling white teeth, and a million-dollar smile, my supposed mom was the opposite. She was more of the Scottish beauty smallish, painfully thin with thick red hair that had some gold highlights that caught the light giving her an exotic look, that was her only distinguishing feature, her eyes were a doe brown nothing special. Her voice was husky and she never quite raised it , it was as chilly as her smile whenever she wanted it to be.
The fact remained the both looked good together their differences made them perfect and I wished I had my mom's red hair or had taken after my father's good looks but that aside. After the pleasantries they expected me to follow them out the door and into their car, but they were sadly mistaken.
I refused to leave with a bunch of strangers without my grandma and the problem was compounded when I was sent to the children's room to play. I had always been a thoughtful child it was one of the things grandma loved about me, so I snuck back into the sitting room a huge white teddy in hand that most probably belonged to Mrs. Roberts granddaughter (Anna).
My thumb was stuck in my mouth like it usually always is whenever I was nervous and I sucked on it listening to the adults. I saw Mr. Pearson thanking Mrs. Robert for all her help and handing her a huge wad of cash. My danger sensor kicked off dragging my newfound teddy with me back to the playroom which was thankfully downstairs or I would have a broken ankle for my stupidity. I jumped off the window and began walking thankfully I was kitted up to withstand the cold weather with a scarf and all.
At some point it began to rain heavily, I was cold but still kept going, I didn't recognize any of the landmark and didn't have money to take a bus or the taxi, I kept walking hoping I would see a familiar land mark, one thing most adult don't contend with is the fact that kids actually have feelings and can think, sometimes even faster than adults often times they are just too little or too vulnerable to do anything about it. I was soaked to the bones and shivering at some point, the rain stopped.
The truth is a five year all cutely dressed up in pink and dragging a white teddy behind with thumbs in her mouth and wandering around in such a horrible temperature was bound to attract a lot of attention. Pretty soon I was surrounded with sounds of awe how cute, and where are her parents and stuff like that.
At some point, someone must have called the police and I was whisked away to the police station by then my nose was running from the cold and my ears were pink. Thankfully the station was warm thanks to the heater, I was wrapped in a blanket while my clothes were taken to the dry cleaner and my story was repeated a thousand times and the response was almost always the same, awww poor thing she must have been so scared, I was bought some mac and cheese to eat and they proceeded to ask me some questions while I wolfed the food down, considering most of it ended on the table, a reluctant officer proceeded to spoon feed me.
"What's your name the dark-haired policeman who had found me asked." Leila Pearson"."Where are your parents baby girl?do you know where they are"?
I live with my grandma I mutter in a low tone pouting, I want grandma I said with trembling lips, but grandma is sick and has to go to the hospital, so I was asked to stay with Mrs. Robert, but she collected money from two people, and she wants me to go with them, so I ran away, and I can't go with them without my grandma. And grandma is sick taking injections! I said my lower lip trembling and tears filling my eyes." Do not worry little one", Howard muttered in a soothing voice, your safe, we would protect you.
The softness of his voice neither matched his dressing nor mannerism but he was nice." we would get you to your grandma I promise". I nodded my head vigorously liking what he was saying. Suddenly tired after my adventure, my cloth was returned and I was dressed. I curled into the chair fast asleep, and they let me the joys of being an adorable child the last thing I felt were warm coarse blankets pulled over my sleeping form just like a warm cocoon while the adults continued with their job.
