"Where are we going?" I asked.
"California." My dad said gruffly.
My jaw dropped. That was over ten hours away. I didn't day anything and just followed him onto the plane.
The whole flight I thought about everyone I was leaving behind.
A guy sat down next to me.
"Hi." He said, smiling.
"Hey." I replied, looking up from my phone. Damn this guy is cute.
"I uhm. I know this is none of my business, but your face? It's like bruised, and I noticed your legs?" He stuttered.
I looked down at my legs.
Bruises were covering them.
"Oh, don't worry, I ride horses had a fall!" I said, forcing out a laugh.
"Oh, you scared me for a second!" He said, joining in with my laughter.
"Yeah, no, don't worry about me." I said.
"So what horses do you ride?" He asked.
"We have four. Even numbers. I ride a bay. He's seven. Youngster. I guess." I said, trying to make it believable.
"Nice. You jump?" He questioned.
"Well. Depends, to be honest. The highest I've jumped is -" I was cut off by my dad.
"Y/n leave the poor man alone." He said, smiling.
"Oh no, she's alright!" The man replied, glancing at me.
"If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?" He whispered.
"Okay, two things, sir. I'm a minor, and I swear Drake said something like that?" I said.
He laughed.
"No, Y/n. I'm not romantically interested in you as you said you are a minor, plus I'm married." He said.
"I'm fifteen and not interested." I said.
"Okay, all jokes aside, I promise I'm not hitting on you. I know what's happening right now, and I need you to stay calm and reply with your favourite pizza topping if you are in danger." He said.
"I-I-I cheese is good. That's my favourite or peppers?" I said my heart pounding. He knew. Was it that obvious?
He nodded to me and stood up.
"Please don't, no!" I said, suddenly changing my mind. "It was a joke. I'm not actually in danger." I said, grabbing his arm.
"I know you're scared I was too." He murmered. I sank back down in my seat and nervously drummed my fingers against the plane window.
A while later, the flight attendant came over to me and sat down.
"Okay honey, I'm going to need you to answer some questions for me. Okay?" She said.
I nodded.
"Okay, what are those bruises from?"
"My dad." I said.
"The cut on your face?"
"My dad."
"Is he on drugs or medication?"
"Does alcohol count?"
"Okay dear, I'm going to need you to stay calm. I am sending help as soon as we land for now. I would like you to come with me." She said.
"I have a brother! He's on the plane! His name is Isaac, and tell him that Y/n says she's sorry." I blurted.
I followed the attendant to a small room where loads of adults were stood looking serious.
They locked the door and sent me smiles and nods.
Isaac came in a little while later, looking confused.
"Y/n, what's going on? Dad's shouting people are taking him away. What's going on?" He asked.
"I'm so sorry." I mumbled.
"Hey, hey, don't be. You probably told someone what's happening. The only problem is we have no where to go." He said.
"California, hey." I said. "Just say we are visiting family and have somewhere to stay. I'm not too keen on sleeping in an orphanage."
"Yes." Isaac responded.
