a/n: welcome to the first chapter, I'm so excited!
enjoy! <3
"It's dangerous to go out, you don't know if you're ever going to get back, like those kids from the news. They left and never came back. Do you think they knew they were going to get kidnapped? Or that they wanted to get kidnapped?" my mom said, standing up from the couch, and I sighed. "What about their parents? How do you think they reacted when they found out their kids disappeared? How worried do you think they were? What would we do if the same thing happened to you?""Your mom is right, and we can't live wondering if you're going to get back home everytime you go out, it's safer this way" my dad said.
"Bullshit" I thought to myself. If my parents ever heard me swearing, I would be dead.
I hated not being able to go out because of some stupid kidnapper.
"Promise us you are staying home until the kidnapper is caught" my mom said before going to the kitchen.
"What about my friends?" I asked, looking for an excuse to go out. I didn't want to stay home and do nothing.
"You can talk on the phone" my dad replied, making me sigh again. "Besides, you talk on the phone everyday" Just then, my mom got back with a glass of water.
"Yeah, but I also need to socialize with my friends. In person"
"I've never seen you hang out with your friends. Do you even have any?"
"Excuse me? I have a lot of friends. Not that you would care, anyways"
"Of course we care, that's why we're doing this. We care so much about you"
"And what about my birthday? Am I just not going to celebrate my sweet sixteen? A girl's most important birthday!"
"Honey, there's still two weeks left for your birthday" my mom replied, sitting on the couch again and taking a sip of water.
"No. There's eleven days" I corrected her. "Today is Sunday, and my birthday is on Thursday of next week. That's eleven days. Not even close to two weeks"
"Okay, well eleven days. I'm sure the kidnapper is caught until then"
"That's what you said a week ago. Is he caught yet? I don't think so. Why can't I go out and have a life?"
"You're too young to understand"
"Of course I don't understand. What is there to understand?"
"Watch your tone" my mom warned.
"Leave me alone" I said, getting up and turning around "I'm going to my room"
I then went upstairs, headed to my room. I sat on her bed and opened Instagram on my phone. I read the latest post:
'Alex Jones, 16 years old, has been missing for a whole week. He was last seen on Tuesday and was never seen again. Please tell us any information you may have'
I sighed, and then looked at the picture of the boy. He had brown hair and brown eyes. He didn't look really happy.
"A whole week? Gosh" I said, sighing, before scrolling to the next post.
'Jacob Stone, 15 years old, is still missing. He was last seen by his friends two weeks ago in the mall. He left, claiming to have gone home, but never returned. Please tell us any information you may have'
I scrolled again to the next picture.
'Melissa Newton, 16 years old, is still missing. She was last seen by her parents three weeks ago, they said she was going to buy something from the store, but she never returned home. Please tell us any information you may have'
"Damn, they must all be dead by now..." I was interrupted when my phone vibrated. It was a message from Jessica, a girl from my class that had recently moved into town. I opened WhatsApp and read the text.
'Hey' it said.
I greeted her, and she asked me if we could hang out.
I explained that my parents wouldn't let me go out, but she said she wanted to come over and then we could go out for a little bit without my parents knowing.
I wasn't entirely sure that I wanted to lie to my parents, I wasn't that kind of person.
But then again, if I went out, I would prove them wrong, and they would realize how responsible I am.
So, I agreed.
My parents were going out anyway, so they wouldn't even realize.
When I was looking for a sticker to send to my friend, my mom interrupted me, opening my bedroom's door without knocking, which she knows I hate.
"Hey" my mom said, walking in.
"What do you want?" I asked in a rude tone "And knock on the door"
"Look, I know it looks like your dad and I are too overprotective, but we do it because we love you" my mom said while sitting next to me on my bed.
"That's what you always say" I thought to myself "I don't even know if it's true"
"It's dangerous, Sid. Maybe it seems like it's not, because you're still a child and nothing looks dangerous, but we just want you to protect you. How many times are you a teenager in your life? Only once. Of course we want you to enjoy your life while you're a teenager, but you have to be careful. Who knows what will happen if you go out? That could be the last time you go out. There is a kidnapper on the loose, think about it. What would you do if you got kidnapped?"
"First of all, there have always been kidnappers everywhere, mom. People have always gotten kidnapped, this is not the first time. Just because he's close to where we live, doesn't mean I'm in more danger than before. And second of all, I'm not going to get kidnapped. It's not like if I go out I'm going to talk to strangers, never mind letting them kidnap me-"
"Just promise us you won't go out!" my mom practically begged, losing her patience and raising her tone.
"Fine, I promise" I replied with a sigh, but I knew I was lying. I had already told Jessica to come over. I just had to wait until my parents were gone, they would never find out.
"I love you honey. We love you"
I looked at my mom, she looked really serious, but I wasn't changing my plans.
I was going out to prove to my parents that I'm old enough to take care of myself.
