I felt bad for leaving Olivia alone, but she's already twelve. She knows how to take care of herself.

Right?

I just ordered some fast food for her, so she wouldn't have to.

I went to my sister's room, she was playing Fortnite. I don't understand how someone like her plays that game.

"Liv!" I called her but she didn't hear me because she was wearing headphones.

Why did she always turn up her volume so loud?

"Liv!" I shouted a little louder, this time she heard me and looked at me.

"Guys, wait a sec" she said before removing her headphones. "What? Can't you see I'm busy?"

"I ordered you a burger and some fries, they're gonna come in 10 minutes, don't forget to take them"

"Okay, thanks" she said before putting on her headphones again and continuing her game.

"Anything for my sis" I replied with a soft smile, although I knew she wouldn't hear me.

I went downstairs, where Jessica was waiting for me.

We left the house and started walking, but just then my phone vibrated.

It was a message from my mom, she was telling me that my dad forgot his phone at home and they were on their way back because they hadn't gone too far.

There was no way, I wasn't at home and my parents were going to find out I sneaked out.

I didn't know if I had any time left to get back home. Maybe my parents already arrived home and found out I was not there.

I was going to be grounded, for sure.

I decided not to risk anything, so I told Jessica to wait there and I started running towards my house. Luckily, I hadn't gone too far.

I arrived a minute later and quickly got in.

I was lucky, my parents still weren't home, but they could arrive any second.

It didn't take long before I heard knocking on the door. I opened it for my parents, who walked in quickly before my dad took his phone.

They quickly left again. This time, I hoped they wouldn't forget anything.

I went out again and looked for Jessica, who was waiting for me where I left her.

"Sorry about that" I apologized for making her wait in the sun.

"It's totally fine, it's not your fault"

We went to McDonald's to eat, and we were now walking down the street, 5 minutes from where we came from.

We didn't really know where we were going, we were just trying to waste some of the time we had remaining.

Just then, a man with black clothes and a black hood that covered his face approached us.

He was really tall and even though he was covered in clothes, I could see he had a really strong body.

"Excuse me, could you help me?" he said with a very deep and low voice, he sounded like he didn't want anyone else to hear him.

"It depends... What do you need help with?"

This man was giving me bad vibes.

He pointed at an alley next to us.

I looked but I didn't understand what he meant. I turned around to tell him I didn't understand, but before I could say anything, the man started running away.

"Where did he go?" I asked myself. A confused look spread across my face.

"That was... weird" Jessica said.

"He doesn't even know what he needs help with" I added, chuckling.

"I think I know what help he needed"

"What help?"

"Mental help"

I chuckled at her response as we continued walking.

Just then, my phone started ringing.

"Who's calling you?" Jessica asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice.

"My mom" I replied with a sigh before picking up and bringing up my phone next to my ear, hoping my parents hadn't forgotten something again. "Yeah?" a confused look replaced the previous soft smile on my face "Hello?" I asked before hanging up and looking at my friend "She must have called by accident, she always does that"

There were a few minutes of silence as we walked.

The streets were peaceful today, definitely because there was a kidnapper on the loose.

Suddenly, Jessica broke the silence.

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Go ahead" I said, turning slightly to look at her.

"I know this is very random, but what would you do if you got kidnapped?"

"I would never get kidnapped"

"How do you know that?" Jessica asked, curious to hear why I thought that.

"Well, first of all, there is a very small chance of getting kidnapped. Second of all, the kidnapper would get tired of me, so it wouldn't last long. And last, but not least, I'm not dumb"

"Okay, well, hypothetically speaking, let's say you got kidnapped. What would you do?"

"Well, hypothetically speaking, I would call the police, obviously"

"What if you can't?"

"I don't know. I guess I would try to escape"

"What if you can't? What if there's no escape?" The girl asked, looking for something that would make me reply.

Jessica was looking at the floor, not daring to look at me.

"Jess, why are you so dramatic about this?" I asked, kind of getting annoyed by my friend's behavior.

"Because you never know"

"Oh my gosh. I'm not going to get kidnapped" I groaned, clearly getting mad "And if I do, I'll face the consequences. Are you happy now?"

Jessica didn't reply. Instead, she sighed and kept looking at the floor, avoiding eye contact. She looked worried.

I wondered what the girl could be so worried about. I get that she was scared of getting kidnapped, but she was being overdramatic.
