The dinosaur dork (Zach Mitchell fic)

Chapter 5

*Annabeth's pov*
"What do we do now?" Zach asked. Truth is: I had no idea. I know it sounds crazy, but they never actually trained me for this kinda stuff. I mean you would think that because we are surrounded by dinosaurs we should take precaution incase one gets out but nope. I guess they were so confident in their paddocks but how does that help us now?
"Um, we should get you back to your aunt. You'll be safe with her." I said trying not to sound terrified.
"Let's start walking"I continued. Zach helped me stand up. My leg was hurting really bad but I didn't want to worry the boys so I didn't say anything. It was probably nothing.

Luckily when I started walking they didn't notice the slight limp.
"What type of dinosaur was that?" Zach asked when we reached the jungle.
"I've studied every dinosaur known to man and I can assure you, that was no dinosaur."I told him.
"Then what was it?"
"I don't know" I said. I saw a quick flash of fear on his face, but it was gone almost instantly.
"I'm sure it's fine. Everything is going to be okay" I said. I hope he believed me, because I wasn't too sure myself. It seemed like he was about to say something but then we heard grey gasp loudly.
"What is it?" I asked. Zach walked over to him and saw that he was holding a broken and bloody hard hat that belonged to someone that worked here. Zach took it from him so that grey didn't have to see that any longer.
'Don't panic. Don't panic. If you panic they will start to panic. Calm down. You'll be okay' I thought to myself.
"Let's keep walking" I commanded.

We walked for about twenty minutes before Zach started talking to me again.
"What you did today, does that happen often?" Zach asked
"Depends. What did I do today?"
"You know, at the raptor cage. When you jumped in front of that guy." He clarified.
"Rarely do people fall in, but it has happened. That was just the first day anybody has gone in after them" I answered
"Why did you do it? Why would you risk you life for someone you don't even know?"
"Because I was there when the guy before him fell in. I couldn't sleep for weeks knowing that I could have done something. Just like with the flair back with that dinosaur thing. If you two died on my watch, I don't think I would be able to live with myself. I'm not saying I'm suicidal or anything but I just think that if someone has to die, I would rather it be me over anyone else." I said
"Are you saying that you are fine with dying?" He questioned.
"No. Of course I'm not ready to die, I haven't even had my first kiss yet. I'm just saying that no one else is going to die if I can do something about it." I answered
"Wait, you haven't had your first kiss?" Zach asked. Oops. I didn't mean to say that.
"Not important" I pushed the question aside.
"Guys," grey called out," I think I found something" Zach and I sprinted to where grey was. Jesus Christ, did that hurt my leg. When we reached where grey was we saw a pair of huge double doors.
"Wait here" Zach said
"Yeah right" I said sarcastically as I walked in front of him and opened the doors. We walked in and it was an old paddock with a sky roof and vines on every wall and trees and bushes everywhere. I walk in front with grey behind me and Zach at the end. We found a dark tunnel with a bunch of drawings of all sorts of dinosaurs. I grabbed a huge bone and a banner.
"Hey, Grey, do you still have those matches" Zach asked.
"Yeah here" grey said. Zach handed me the matches and I made a torch out of the banner and bone. After a bit of walking we found a garage type of room with two jeeps in it.
"Jackpot" Zach mumbled.
"What do you mean? Can you make these run?" I asked
"Yeah, if we have the right tools. Grey, do you remember when we fixed up grandpas old truck?"
"Yeah" grey smiled. They spent about an hour working on the car while I tried to help. I wasn't much use but I appreciated that they let me try. I needed something to think about so I don't worry about the fact that this will be the first time I've been in a car since the accident.
"Alright, start it up" Zach told grey. The car roared to life.
"Yes you guys did it!" I said. "They high fived and grey gave me a hug which I returned. I grabbed a bucket and got in the passenger seat. Zach got in the driver seat and grey got in the back. I buckled up and told them to do as well.
"Alright mom" Zach said sarcastically. I wasn't in the mood for jokes.
"I thought you failed your driving test" grey told Zach
"Only the driving part" Zach responded. He let out a small laugh until he saw my face. I was terrified. I was having trouble breathing and I was about to puke and we weren't even moving yet. Zach stopped laughing and tried to drive as safely as he could while still speeding. We kept driving until we saw a closed wooden gate.
"Hold on!" Zach yelled. He drove right through the double doors.
"Woohoo!" He and grey screamed. That's when I began to vomit. I'm surprised I even lasted that long.
Zach started to rub my back in soothing circles.
"JUST PUT BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL, GOD DAMMIT!" I yelled at him. Grey kinda laughed at that. I was just starting to feel better when grey suddenly started screaming
"Go! Drive! Go go go!"
"Oh shit" Zach mumbled. I looked up to see a bunch of pterodactyls chancing our car. Zach started driving a lot faster and grey started screaming louder and I began to vomit again.
"Open up!" Zach and grey started to yell to the guys on guard duty for the gates. They opened the gates and we all ran out of the car. I was a little woozy but I was just glad to be out of the car. The pterodactyls started swooping down and killing people one by one. "We have to find your aunt Claire!" I told them.

Sorry this chapter sucks but the next one will be super long and stuff! I'm going to the beach in a few days for a week so I doubt I will be able to update while I'm there so I'm going to try and update every day until then but I'm sorry if I skip a day.
