The dinosaur dork (Zach Mitchell fic)

Capter 4

We got on the train to take us to the gyrospheres. I was a little jumpy and couldn't keep still. I don't like trains, busses, cars, etc. Not after what happened. Grey was looking out the window, Zach was talking to some girls behind him and I was staring at my shaking leg while trying to convince myself to calm down and that I'm okay. All of a sudden I heard a few sniffles. I looked up to see Grey crying. That's not a good sign.
"Grey, what's wrong?" I asked
"Mom and dad are getting a divorce" he answered. This got Zach's attention.
"No they're not." Zach said
"They get mail from two different lawyers"
"That doesn't mean anything" Zach responded
"I googled, they are divorce lawyers"
"Yeah, well it doesn't matter. I'm going to be leaving soon and now you'll get two Christmases, two birthdays, two-"
"I don't want two of everything!"
"It's not up to you. There is a moment in life you need to learn to grow up. Stop crying" Zach said.
"Zach!" I yelled
"Come here Grey. I know what you are going through" I said. Grey came and put his head on my shoulder and continued to cry.
"Did your parents get divorced?" Grey asked
"No" I answered
"Then how do you know what I'm going through?" He questioned.
"About a year ago, my parents-" I paused. It was really hard to say. "T-they passed away" I stuttered.
"How?" Grey asked
"Grey," Zach said threateningly.
"no it's okay" I said to Zach
"It was a snowy day and the tiers slipped on the ice and the car flipped. I'm the only survivor of the crash" I squeaked. My voice cracked a few times and I tried not to cry.
"Just know that your parents aren't doing this because they don't love you. Of course your parents love you. They are doing this because they love you and they don't want you to hear them fighting all the time. They'll be happier this way. Can you accept that?" I said
"I guess" grey replied
"Good. Now let's continue this amazing day and go see some more dinosaurs! Where's that wonderful smile of yours?" I said. Grey smiled brightly at me.

I instantly felt better when we got off the train and I was safe again. Because of the fast passes Claire gave them the boys didn't have to wait in line very long. While we were waiting grey went on about how the iron in dinosaurs bones they have the ability to stay solid for millions of years and not crack which helps us when we find them. I already knew this but I was listening anyway.
"Shut up" Zach told Grey. I looked at Zach about to tell him how that was rude but I saw him staring at a group of girls
"What do you think is going to happen with you just staring at them?" Grey asked
The girls giggled and got into their ride leaving Zach very embarrassed.
"Thanks for that" Zach said sarcastically.
"Anytime" Grey said
The next gyrosphere rolled up and I decided that I was going to stay behind. If I couldn't handle the train I definitely couldn't handle a gyrosphere. I normally just ride my bike everywhere.
"Are you sure you aren't coming?" Grey asked.
"I'm positive, but have a great time with all those dinosaurs!" I said trying to sound cheery. The door closed and they started to ride off.
*grey's pov*
Zach started to steer us on the path of the ride. I laughed when jimmy Fallon got goo on his face and passed out in the safety video. I began to get a little impatient when I didn't see any dinosaurs. Then, all of a sudden, I saw dozens. They were beautiful. Even Zach looked amazed. Suddenly the screen started to beep telling us that there were technical difficulties and that we had to go back. I was bummed and Zach noticed.
"Nah, we can stay out a few more minutes." He said
"But it says we have to go back" I explained
"Aunt Claire gave us special passes. We're VIP dude." He said and kept driving. We were driving until we saw and open gate off the path.
"Let's go back now" I said
"I'm just worried you aren't getting the full Jurassic World experience" Zach said while continuing to drive.
*annabeth's pov*
I was the last one at the gyrosphere station. I was waiting for Zach and Grey to get back. I was starting to get a little worried. I decided that I need to go find them and make sure they were safe. I grabbed the first aid kit the kept under the pedestal and speed walked to the nearest gyrosphere. I got in and told myself to breath. I couldn't do it. I opened the door and started to throw up. I decided to try again. I got in and held back my vomit. I sped down the normal track you take on a gyrosphere ride until I noticed an open gate. Even with the little knowledge I had of those boys I somehow knew that they wouldn't be able to resist going through that opened gate, so I went too.
Eventually I found them. Fortunately, they looked safe. Until I saw the huge dinosaur behind them. Oh god, what do I do? The dinosaur kicked them and they started running into trees and the other dinosaurs. Eventually the big dinosaur noticed them and started trying to eat the gyrosphere. I grabbed the first aid kid and grabbed the flair we always keep in them. I opened the door, glad to be out, and yelled "hey!" I lit the flair and began to run. It only distracted the dinosaur for a few seconds but in those few seconds the boys unbuckled and got out of the gyrosphere. The started to run. The huge dinosaur didn't even try to chase the flair. Clever girl. I began to run too. Eventually we got out of the forest and were now in a piece of land that had no trees. The boys were a little ahead of me because they had a head start. I wasn't exactly behind them I was a few yards to their left so I don't even know if they noticed me. They reached the edge of the cliff and just stood there. Are they idiots? They need to jump! They weren't jumping and the dinosaur was catching up. I was almost to them when I pushed them of the cliff and could barley stop in time to jump myself. The dinosaur took a big chunk out of my shirt and it made me fall a few feet to the right. I made it in the water but I hit my head and everything went black.
*Zach's pov*
We were just standing there because Grey was refusing to jump, when suddenly we felt a huge push on our backs and began to fall. Once we fell in the water grey tried to start swimming up. I grabbed hold of his arm and held a finger to my lips, signifying that we had to stay down until we knew the dinosaur was gone. We finally started to swim upwards and we reached a patch of land and I helped grey climb onto it.
"Where is Annabeth?" Grey asked
Oh shit. I turned around quickly and looked to see if she had come up already. I didn't see her. I went back under the water and started to look for her but it was difficult to see under there. I was starting to panic when I saw that some of the water was turning a bit red. I looked and I saw her body just floating in the water. I quickly grabbed hold of her and started swimming her to the patch of land. I pushed her on and looked for a pulse. She still had a pulse but she wasn't breathing. I began to give her CPR. Grey started to cry and my eyes got a little wet. Then she started to cough and water came out of her mouth but she could finally breath. Grey tried to hug he but she pushed him away and started to puke into the water.
I held her long brown hair back until she was done and I noticed her shirt was all torn up. I took off my hoodie and handed it to her.
"Here, you need it more than I do" I said
"Sorry for throwing up and stuff" she said clearly embarrassed.
"Don't apologize. You just saved our lives" grey said.
"Well what do we do now?" I asked
