"Cops are on their way," Silas informed me as I made my way back into the waiting, "What happened?"
"Shallow heartbeat, they're taking her back for tests and surgery," I flopped into a nearby chair leaning forwards with my face in my hands.
About an hour passed and I was up pacing, Ethan was sitting with Silas talking about the events of the night when I heard someone talking to the ER clerk.
"I'm looking for a Silas Reid," the voice said causing me to turn towards Silas motioning to the man at the desk.
Silas stood up and walked a bit closer then said, "I'm Sila Reid."
The man turned around flashing a badge, "my name is Agent Adams, can you give me a rundown of what happened tonight?"
Silas and I altered back and forth about what had happened giving as much detail as we could starting with the reasoning of our being there. We informed him about the things we heard, the group that chased us out, and Sklyars last minute change of plans.
"Does she have any family in the area someone we should notify?"
"She doesn't have anybody in the area, but she does have a brother down in Florida." I informed.
"Do you have a name?" my mind went blank, she had talked about him before, but I couldn't think of his name.
"Gaege, Gaege Gibson." Ethan said setting a hand on my shoulder for reassurance.
"Is there a number we could use to contact him?" the agent asked as he proceeded to write in his notebook.
"We don't have a phone number," Matt chimed in looking down at his shoes.
"Graham does," Silas' eyes lit up as he pulled out his phone.
"Get the brothers number, we will get him filled in, we will need to get an official report in, so eventually we'll need you to go through the story again down at the station." Adams informed us before walking outside with a few of the other cops.
Silas put his phone to his ear waiting for the person on the other end to pick up, "Graham... yeah, we're fine... listen we need Gaege's number... we'll explain later... no, Graham..." Silas took a few steps back as a nurse approached us.
"She's out of surgery," the nurse informed, I glanced at the clock on the wall, we had been there for a little over 3 hours. "Is there any family here that we could talk to?"
"I'm her fiancé," I blurted out causing Matt and Ethan to turn their attention towards me.
"Immediate family, such as a brother or sister, maybe even a parent." she said flatly looking bored.
"I'm her fiancé," I repeated.
"That's not a legal family member, if you were married that'd be different."
"What the hell do you mean? Her only other family is all the way in Florida!" I wasn't typically an angry person, but my impatience turned to anger quickly, people were starting to stare.
"She shouldn't have to be alone, what is he supposed to tell her brother if he calls? 'Oh, sorry man she's still alone for the next 7 or so hours until you get here, and I have no updates for you either on her condition.' How do you think that'll sit with him?" Ethan snapped.
"I'm sorry sir, but I can't let you or him back there or give you any information on her until I've talked to her brother." the nurse shrugged with an eye roll relaxing the papers in front of her body.
"I'm her fucking fiancé!" I yelled.
"What the hell is going on here?" Silas approached cautiously sliding his phone into the front pocket of his jeans.
"Nurse won't tell Coen information about his fiancé or even let him see her even though her brother is states away." Matt told him emphasizing the word 'fiancé' still glaring at the nurse.
"Look her brother won't be here for at least another day. You're going to let him worry? If he calls his soon to be brother-in-law and can't get information from him because he's not 'family enough' how do you think that's gonna resonate with him?" Silas went along using quotations and staying on the calm route. We kept arguing with the nurse until a doctor finally approached.
"What's going on over here?" He questioned tiredly.
"Your nurse won't let me see my damn fiancé," I growled, "her brother is in Florida and won't be here for at least another day."
The doctor sighed pinching the bridge of his nose, "let the fiancé in and update him on her condition."
The nurse sighed motioning for me to follow her. By the time we reached Skylar's room the nurse had told me her condition and warned me that it wasn't going to be a pretty sight.
When I entered the room, my chest felt heavy. Skylar was hooked to an IV and Oxygen. She had a chest tube, which the nurse had told me was placed between her ribs and lungs to help drain the air and allow the lungs to re-expand along with being hooked to a Ventilator, Pulse Oximeter, Cardiac Monitor, and a Suction Device. She was all cut up and bruised she wore a cast on her right arm, her right leg was straightened out unable to bend, and she had second degree burns up her legs, which I was informed that if she had been brunt a moment longer, they would have been third degree burns.
Once the nurse left, I sat in a chair next to her bed resting my head in my hands listening to the steady beeps of the heart monitor.
