"No! No! It was not me!" I was yelling at my friends. "I watched Eddie kill Jack!" We were playing an intense game of VR Among Us. "Jazelle, back me up!"
"No, Hermano! You killed Jack!" Eddie and Jazelle were cackling at my desperation to prove myself innocent.
We never played these games seriously as we mainly played them to make funny skits for our YouTube channels.
"Sean! Sean, Sean, Sean!" I proceeded to yell, "I was with you when Lucious was killed!"
"You were," he confirmed our time for discussion was over and we needed to make a vote, "vote Gaege!"
"What! Wait! No!" I yelled, but it was too late the words appeared across my screen as my character drifted into space, 'Cappy was not the imposter.' "What the hell man."
We were all laughing and proceeding with our game making more skits when my phone rang.
"Dude!" Lucious groaned, "Why is your phone ringing?"
"Probably because he's getting a phone call." Jack laughed.
"Come on Lucy, it's not rocket science." Meg said in a monotoned voice causing an eruption of laughter at the nickname.
"Is it your sister? I bet it's your sister," Sean vouched. "Does she miss you?"
"Give me a minute," I said once the phone rang again with the same number. "It's not my sister." I was suddenly serious and worried as I remembered the last message she had sent me. I took off my headset hearing the muffled groans of everyone in chat as I left my office, closing the door behind me. "Hello?" I questioned into the phone with a lump in my throat.
"Is this Gaege Gibson?" the voice on the other end questioned.
"Yes."
"I'm calling about your sister, Skylar Gibson, she's in the hospital--"
"Is she okay?" I asked cutting him off.
"She's stable."
"What happened? What's wrong with her?" I could feel the color draining from my face as I leaned against the wall for support. Dawson opened his bedroom door quickly, eager to hear what was happening.
"Sir, my name is Nathan, I am your sister's doctor. She came in about 3 hours ago, she just got out of surgery for a collapsed lung." I started to feel nauseous, "She has an oblique fracture in her arm, a patella fracture, second degree burns up to about her knees, poor circulation in both hands due to being tied up, which should return to normal soon, a fractured rib and sutures in her right leg and stomach."
"Is she going to be, okay?" My eyes began to burn slightly.
"It's hard to say at this time, she did lose a lot of blood, but she is currently in stable condition, we have put her in a medically induced coma in hopes it'll ease her pain and help with the healing process."
I figured out the address to the hospital and hung up the phone. I took a minute to explain the situation to Dawson to the best of my abilities before returning to my computer in my office.
"Gaege, what the hell is going on? You were on the phone for a while is everything okay?" I heard Jack's muffled voice in the headset. I disconnected it and proceeded to look for the earliest flight to California.
"I'm going to California for a while, I'm not sure when I'll be back, Skylar's in the hospital and it's not looking too good. I'll catch you guys up later, maybe." I told them as I confirmed my purchase for the plane ticket and left the call.
I went straight to my room and pulled out a suitcase throwing things in it. I walked around my apartment grabbing some of the essentials. My flight was leaving first thing in the morning, I did my best to get some sleep, but instead ending up lying awake.
