"Are you alright?" Garreth asked in that all too familiar tone. It was one that many people used when talking to me. One of sympathy and pity. I typically despised it but, somehow, it felt comforting coming from Garreth.

"Fine. Sorry, actually. I'm not fine." I said as my voice cracked just a bit. I felt weak. I hated feeling so weak. I brought my knees down as Garreth sat beside me on the bench. He ran one hand through those famous red curls of his.

My eyes wandered to his. I could see a sparkle in his eye. It was a sparkle that seemed to say everything would be okay as long as he was beside me. Merlin, what was happening to me? Why was I suddenly looking at Garreth in a new light?

"Would you like to talk about it?" He asked with a sympathetic tone. I let out a long sigh. Of course, I wanted to talk about it. I would love nothing more than to talk about it but I couldn't. I made a promise. To Ominis. To myself. I couldn't break that promise.

"I wish I could. Wait a minute, aren't you supposed to be in class right now?" I asked, remembering how I had just seen him in the gardens not that long ago. He shrugged his shoulders, an awkward chuckle escaping his lips as he did.

"Couldn't bring myself to do it. I just wanted one more day where I didn't have to see her." Garreth said in a soft tone, alluding to Nellie. I knew exactly what he meant. I could relate to Garreth more than anyone else in this castle at this moment. But he didn't know that. And he probably never would.

"I understand. I guess I'm skipping class too. Though not for entirely the same reason." I lied, hoping he wouldn't push too far into it. Garreth sat up straight and smacked his hands on his thighs.

"Well, it seems you and I could use a day off. What do you say we head out of here? Go do something fun. Away from school and people we don't want to see, whoever that may be." He said, wiggling his eyebrows at me in a cheeky manner. He held his hand out as he waited for me to take it.

If there was one thing about Garreth Weasley it was that he knew how to have fun. Even amid heartbreak and pain, he knew how to have fun. And his fun was contagious at that. I was not one to skip classes but how could I pass up such an opportunity? It was more entertaining than fighting with Ominis.

"You know what? Sure. Let's go." I said as I grabbed his hand. The moment my hand was placed in his, he wrapped around it gently and gave it a careful squeeze.
