Tim Bradford and Lucy Chen walked over and were waiting for the elevator.
"After you." He said and she entered the elevator. He walked in after her. He pressed the button
"You probably saved my life." He said looking at her.
"You had him."
"I was upside down in a footwell, and he was about to stab me in the face. No, I did not have him. So thank you."
"You're welcome."
"Listen, I know I ruined everything and I know how easy it would have been for you to turn on me."
"You don't have to do this." She said as she looked at him.
"Yeah, I do. You will never know how much I appreciate the kindness you've shown me. And I will spend the rest of my life trying to pay it back, in whatever small doses you allow. Good night." He said as he left the elevator. She stood there for a moment before following after him.
"Hey, Tim." She yelled out and as she followed him.
"What's up?" He asked her.
"The rest of us are going to get drinks at the usual spot, would you like to join us?" She asked.
"Yeah, I would like that." He said.
"I'll meet you there then." She said smiling as she made her way to her car. She got in and touched up her makeup before she drove to the bar. She walked in and signed up for the karaoke, she then ordered a martini. She pushed two tables together and sat down.Soon enough, Nolan and Bailey joined her, followed by Tim, then Angela and Wesley, and lastly Nyla and James. They were all the bar hanging out and talking about various things. They were listening to the music that was playing, Lucy felt safe enough to just relax and have fun, so she was now on her fourth martini. A woman stepped onto the stage.
"It's karaoke hour. First up, Lucy." The woman on stage called out.
"That's my cue." Lucy said as she looked at them and took a sip of her martini before leaving them and going onto the stage. She had picked Rescue by Lauren Daigle. The music began playing as she smiled softly. She waited for the music and then began singing.
"You are not hidden, there's never been a moment. You were forgotten. You are not hopeless. Though you have been broken. Your innocence, stolen." Lucy sang as she looked out into the crowd, seeing her friends she smiled.
"I hear you whisper underneath your breath. I hear your SOS, your SOS." She sang as she looked over at her friends. She took the wireless microphone off the stand and walked over to her table.
"I will send out an army to find you in the middle of the darkest night. It's true, I will rescue you." Lucy sang as she walked over and looked at Tim.
"There is no distance that cannot be covered, over and over. You're not defenseless, I'll be your shelter, I'll be your armor." She sang as she grabbed Tim's hand and pulled him out of his chair.
"Are we really doing this, Lucy?" He asked, annoyed as he stood up.
"I hear you whisper underneath your breath.
I hear your SOS, your SOS." She sang as she
she nodded as she looked up at him.
"I will send out an army to find you in the middle of the darkest night. It's true, I will rescue you." She sang and looked up at him.
"I will never stop marching to reach you. In the middle of the hardest fight. It's true, I will rescue you." She sang as she smiled happily as she used her free hand to run her fingers through his hair before messing it up completely.
"I hear the whisper underneath your breath. I hear you whisper, you have nothing left."
She sang out as she looked at Tim.
"I will send out an army to find you in the middle of the darkest night. It's true, I will rescue you." She sang as she dragged him over to the stage.
"I will never stop marching to reach you in the middle of the hardest fight. It's true, I will rescue you." She sang as she looked at him.
"Oh, I will rescue you." She sang as the song ended. The bar erupted with applause. She put the microphone on the stand and bowed. They made their way over to the table and she down the rest of her martini. Tim sat down in his seat and Lucy sat down in his lap."Hey, Nolan."
"What's up, Lucy?" Nolan asked her as he answered the phone.
"What would you do if someone threatened to hurt someone you love?" Lucy asked.
"Anything I could do to protect them."
"So there is this guy and I love him. But when it comes to this man, I will gladly stand between him and a gun, smile and tell whoever is on the other side to pull the trigger."
"Why?"
"Because I will always protect him even if it's with my life."
"You would go that far for this man. Why?"
"Because he is the one of the only people who looked at me with all my flaws and my wounds. Yet, he chose me to love unconditionally and healed all the wounds that he never created."
"Do I know this man?" He asked her.
"Yes, you do. In fact, I happen to be sitting on top of him." She said.
"Wait, me?" Tim asked her.
"Yeah, you."
"Timothy Bradford, I love you." Lucy said drunkenly.
"But you can be such a dick sometimes. Like when I was still a Rookie you would put me through hell and I hated you for it. But I don't hate you anymore. I love you and I will always love you. I mean there was before you and there was during you. For some reason, I never thought there would be after you because you are my person." She admitted as she looked over at him.
"Is that so?" He said smirking as he wrapped his arms around her waist. She placed her head into the crook of his neck.
"Drunk Lucy is a very honest Lucy huh?" Bailey asked Nolan.
"Yeah. She also gets very clingy and needy when she is drunk." Nolan replied.
"We can see that." James said as they all looked over at Lucy who was curled up in a ball on Tim's lap.
"She looks so peaceful." Wesley said.
"After everything she has been through, she deserves it. She was raised as an experiment by her parents, bullied by her T.O., then kidnapped and tortured by a psychopath, buried alive and almost died, then she was practically disowned by her parents, lost one of her best friends, and then fell inlove with Tim and he broke her heart." Nolan said as they all looked at Lucy.
"Poor girl." Bailey said softly as she held onto Nolan's arm.
"Yeah." James said.
"She really has been through a lot." Nyla said as Lucy stood up.
"I'm going to take her back to my place to sleep this off." Tim said, he stood up as well.
"Okay, have fun." Nolan said.
"Night, guys." Tim said as he grabbed their stuff and carefully guided Lucy out of the bar.Once they were outside, Lucy ran over to Tim's truck and got in. He made sure that she was buckled up and secured before he shut the passenger side door and went over to the driver's side and got in. He put the keys in and started the car and backed out of his parking spot. The car ride was surprisingly silent. He pulled into his driveway and put the car in park. He turned off the engine and grabbed his stuff. She opened the passenger side door and drunkenly stepped out.
"Okay." He said as he opened the door and stepped out. He shut his door and immediately went to her side. He helped her walk to the house. They both went into his house and were immediately greeted by Kojo.
"Hey boy!" Tim said as he set his keys onto the kitchen counter. He went over and grabbed Kojo's leash.
"I have to take Kojo out, want to join us?" He asked her.
"No, I'm okay."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I'll be fine. But after we need to talk."
"Understood. I will be right back." He said as he put Kojo on the leash and walked out of the house. Lucy took off her shoes and jacket. She grabbed the dog food and filled Kojo's dish and also gave him some clean water. She then went over and sat down on his couch. She took off her gun and badge and set them on the coffee table beside her. Tim took off his shoes and jacket, he went into the bedroom and put away his gun in the safe.
"What did you want to talk about?" He asked her as he sat down beside her on the couch.
"I can't afford to lose the best relationship that I have ever had." She drunkenly admitted as she looked at him. She started crying.
"When we first met, I had no idea you'd become this important to me and now I can't imagine what life would be like without you because you mean so much to me." She said as he wiped away her tears. He just listened and felt so guilty and ashamed of himself for what he had put her through.
"Lucy, I thought that I was protecting you when I left. The look on your eyes when we broke up is burned into my memory. And I will spend the rest of my life trying to make it up to you." He said as he looked over at her.
"I know."
"Is there anything I can get you?"
"A hug." She said softly as he pulled her into a hug and held her in his arms.
"Thank you, Tim. Can we just stay like this for a little while?" She asked him.
"Of course." He said as she snuggled her head into his neck and closed her eyes.
"Thank you for being here for me, Tim." She whispered.
"I will always be here to support and love you, Lucy. No matter what happens, I'm yours." He said softly as he kissed her forehead gently.
"Hey Tim, can I ask you something?" She asked, yawning.
"Of course Lucy." Tim said softly.
"Make me a promise?" She asked.
"Okay? What is it?"
"Promise me that whatever happens, you and me will last forever?" She asked.
"Promise." Tim said, reaching for her hand as if to add an extra layer to his affirmation. She smiled as she reached over and grabbed his hand and brought it up to her lips. She kissed his hand gently, she then hugged him. He hugged her back and held her in his arms.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"I am now." She said.
"Thank you for always taking care of me." She whispered.
"I will always be here for you, Lucy." He said as she laid down on top of him.
"I know that as long as I have you around, nothing bad will happen to me." She said softly and cuddled him as she closed her eyes. She ended up falling asleep. He picked her up and carried her to his bedroom. He moved the covers and laid her down on his bed before covering her up. Kojo hopped up on the bed and laid down beside her. He smiled as he watched them for a little while. Then, he shut off the lights and left them to sleep. He made himself a bed on the couch, he went around the house and made sure that everything was locked and secure before he shut off the lights and laid down on the couch. He stared up at the ceiling before falling asleep.
