The moment Claire ran out of the club, tears streaming down her face, Selene stood frozen in shock. The guilt gnawed at her, but before she could chase after Claire, the girl who had kissed her earlier sidled up beside her, smirking.
"You don't need that human, anyway," the girl sneered, her voice dripping with disdain. "You're better off without her. She's just a weak little—"
Before the girl could finish, Selene snapped out of her trance. Her blood ran cold, and without thinking, she spun around and grabbed the girl by the neck. The girl's eyes widened in fear, but it was too late. With a swift motion, Selene twisted, and the girl's neck snapped with a sickening crack. She dropped the lifeless body to the floor, disgusted by her own lapse in control.
Ignoring the stares from the clubgoers who had witnessed the scene, Selene stormed back inside, searching for her brother. She found him in a corner booth, leisurely sucking the blood from two girls' necks. He looked up as she approached, a lazy smile on his lips.
"You're ruining my fun, sister," he drawled, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "You should be enjoying the gift I sent for you."
Selene's eyes blazed with fury as she realized the truth. "You set me up," she hissed, her voice trembling with rage.
He shrugged nonchalantly. "I thought you'd thank me. I was only trying to help you forget about that human girl."
"Help me?" Selene's voice rose in pitch, her frustration boiling over. "You just made things a thousand times worse! That girl kissed me, and now Claire thinks—"
Her brother's expression turned from smug to concerned. "Selene, I didn't mean to cause trouble. I just wanted you to have some fun."
"Fun?" Selene spat. "You call this fun? You just made everything difficult for me!"
Without waiting for a response, Selene stormed off, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. She didn't call her driver. She couldn't stand to be confined in a car right now. Instead, she walked to Claire's house, the night air doing little to cool the fire inside her. With every step, she replayed the scene in the club over and over, searching for something she could say to justify her actions.
When she finally arrived at Claire's house, she hesitated for a moment before knocking on the door. The silence that followed was agonizing, but eventually, the door creaked open, revealing Claire. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying, and the sight of her like this made Selene's heart ache even more.
"Can I come in?" Selene asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Claire's expression was cold, her gaze hard. "I think it's best if you just leave."
Those words felt like a punch to the gut, and Selene had to fight back the tears that threatened to spill over. "Claire, please," she began, her voice trembling with emotion. "I'm so sorry. I didn't know that girl was going to kiss me. It was my brother—he ordered her to do it."
Claire's eyes flashed with anger as she yelled, "But you still kissed her back, Selene!"
Selene quickly interjected, "I was caught off guard! I didn't mean to—it just happened. Please, believe me. I didn't want to hurt you."
Claire looked torn, her emotions warring on her face. "It's... whatever," she finally muttered, trying to sound indifferent.
But Selene couldn't let it go. She dropped to her knees, a desperate move that startled Claire. "What are you doing?" Claire asked, her voice filled with confusion.
Selene looked up at her, her eyes pleading. "Vampires never submit to anyone, Claire. But I'm submitting to you. I'm really, truly sorry. I miss you so much, and I'll do anything—anything—for you to forgive me."
Claire stared down at Selene, her resolve wavering. She had never seen Selene look so vulnerable, so helpless. It was almost comical to see the usually composed and powerful vampire groveling like a puppy, but Claire couldn't deny the sincerity in her eyes. Despite herself, she found the situation a little funny, though she kept her guard up to appear still angry.
"Anything?" Claire asked, a hint of amusement in her voice.
"Yes," Selene answered eagerly, nodding. "Anything."
Claire raised an eyebrow, considering her next words carefully. "Was the kiss good?"
Selene shook her head fervently. "No. It meant nothing. I snapped the girl's neck afterward."
A shiver of excitement ran through Claire at that admission, and despite everything, she couldn't help but feel a strange sense of satisfaction. Still, she wasn't going to let Selene off that easily.
"Since you'll do anything for me," Claire said, her tone turning playful as she leaned down, "then give me a kiss."
Selene's eyes lit up, and she didn't hesitate. She leaned in and kissed Claire, pouring all her love, guilt, and desperation into the kiss. It was tender, apologetic, and full of longing. But just as Selene was getting lost in the moment, Claire tightened her grip around Selene's neck, pulling back slightly.
"If you ever disrespect me like that again," Claire whispered, her voice low and dangerous, "by dancing and kissing another woman, I'll make sure you lose your little friend." She glanced down meaningfully at Selene's crotch, a wicked grin tugging at the corners of her lips.
Selene swallowed hard, a mix of fear and arousal coursing through her. "I promise," she whispered back. "It won't happen again."
Claire released her grip, brushing a thumb over Selene's cheek. For a moment, they just stared at each other, the intensity of the moment binding them together. Claire knew she had the upper hand, and Selene, for once, was more than willing to submit.
